Best mapping software

I'm dumping Google maps because, either I'm getting older, or the font is getting smaller and smaller. :)

BB maps allows you to set a minimum font size, which is nice. I also like the pinch/zoom functions and such that seem to work like you expect. However, I'm not really happy with the search results coming from YP.

Any thoughts on a good mapping tool that has the best of both features? I've tried a few, but got tired of spending $4.99 to download something that's more of the same.

Thanks!
Brian

Brian

What do you mean with "YP" ?

if you make a local search with bb-maps, It will mostly give you results from google.
If you like a different search, you could try to use poynt, which then will use blackberrymaps for the mapping.

YP must mean Yellow Pages, yp.com. And BlackBerry Maps does use google for local searches. Poynt will use a vaiety of data sources, including Yellow Pages, but provides an option for user to select the mapping application.

Lately none have been very good IMHO. It seems they all try to add too much fluff that causes a delay in the launch time or simply are poor in features.

I have used Google maps, Blackberry maps, YP maps, ATT navigator and a GPS program available on Appworld.

So far the simplest (to me) is BB Maps to use but some may feel its limited.

OP's profile says 8100, but for what it's worth, if using a device that supports it, BlackBerry Traffic has several good points. It is free, first of all, and now includes voice directions, and performance is pretty good as far as I'm concerned. Plus, the user can also input a landmark or business or whatever, and not just street address, for search. There are various screens, such as next turn and distance in large font, or a list of all turns with distances. No need to be concerned with reading small fonts on a mobile screen. The app uses Bing Local search, by the way, and does need BlackBerry Maps installed.

Also for what it's worth, I rely on BlackBerry Traffic for nav and Poynt for local searches. I also have the Bing app because the Bing maps app will often show addresses that BlackBerry Traffic or BlackBerry Maps can't find, and also for the satellite view feature.
