"battery drained, handset shutting down" why does this happen 4hrs after charging

Hey guys, In the last week or so my phone will go from showing that I have over half of my battery left and then suddenly with no warning it comes up "battery drained, handset shutting down".

Normally when that happens its because the battery is genuinely low and the battery icon goes from white to amber to red before it shuts down, but lately after minimal usage (a few texts / 1 short phone call / brief facebook time) it goes from >50% full to dead in a few hours

Has this happened to anyone else before? is it a problem with the actual battery that can be solved by a new battery or is it a more critical thing?

thanks

First, please confirm your BB model number.

Have you let the battery run below 20% on a regular basis?

It's a BB curve 9300. I thought I had posted in that specific forum.

I have on occaision let it go below 20% if I have been without my charger as the phone rarely lasts more than 12-15hours on a good day.

Batteries can show different symptoms depending. If you haven't damaged the device that you know of, the thing to do is try another battery that you know is good. Sounds like yours has all but quit.

Make sure you get a BB OEM battery. They're pretty cheap these days.

I had the same problem.

My phne will charge with the generic battery till 40% then it normally jumps to full.

When using the phone, and I get to about 70%, it shuts down and I have to battery pull. Battery life is terrible, 3 or 4 hours when in use.

I have 2 batteries, a new "generic" one and an original one which is pregnant/bloated.

My problem has now been sorted.

My steps:

1) Let my generic battery drain till phone switched off.

2) Plugged into PC with USB cable to charge a little, just below 20%.

3) Did a security wipe on the handset.

4) Plugged into PC again and did a wipe with BBSAK. Did this twice just to make sure I got all the suckers.

5) Installed OS barebone. Installed 6.0 Bundle 2534 (v6.0.0.570, Platform 6.6.0.212). This is the latest OS for MTN South Africa, the network I'm on.

6) Its been a few days now, and haven't had problems.

I am going to try re-install the latest OS available soon, just going to make it run as it is for a few days.

Posted in the 9300 forum but profile says 6300. That is why I asked you to confirm it.

Do not drain the battery or let it run past 20% on a regular basis. That can cause damage and shorten the life. When replacing, make sure you use a good quality battery from a reliable source. An OEM replacement is much preferred over a cheap knock-off.

Hi all I found this really useful blog post which shows how to make your battery last longer but I cannot post the url until after fifteen posts.
