BIS 2.0 and Windows Live Domains

Hi,

I am owner of a Windows Live Domain which is connected to a Windows Live Mail account. The problem: I canīt add this mail account to BIS, since the email address does not end with @hotmail.com but with my own domain.

Any ideas how to add it?

Malte

Interesting. So what error do you get when you try to add it to the BIS?

The E-Mail account could not be configured. Please follow the instructions on the screen (translated from German). I can then choose from different account types like POP, Outlook, Lotus Notes etc.

You may have to use the IP address for your MX or mail record. Do a search in Google for nslookup. Find a site where you can enter your domain name and see what IP address is associated with the MX record. Then try that for the mail server name in the BIS.

I canīt, because I can only choose between POP/IMAP, Outlook and Notes ... it seem to be pretty easy: when I enter @hotmail.com as email address the system knows that itīs an MSN/Hotmail address.

It will know common mail accounts such as Yahoo or MSN but for other ones (normally private domains) it will want your incoming mail server address.

If you can't get it to interogate your mail you could always set up a forward.

Unfortunately not - Windows Live Mail does not support forwarding. The only way of forwarding I can think if is GetMail running on a Windows box. But who wantīs that kind of solution?!

This is the same problem that us hosted Gmail people have...

BIS seems to do this special integration with services like Hotmail and Gmail based solely on the domain name of the email address.

That means that it breaks down for those of us using these newer services.

Too bad that they decided to implement it that way vs. doing something like looking at the MX records or the server's headers.
