I hope it's successful. The last thing the US needs is a GSM monopoly.

True and a GSM monopoly opens the doors for a CDMA monopoly. The losers in all of this (if it goes through) are the consumers.

I'm in the minority here.
I am a long time T-Mobile customer. They are the weak sister in GSM. I was looking forward to standard wireless frequencies. We were entertaining the thought of changing to AT&T anyway.

While I don't want TMO usa to go. It is clear Deutsche Telecom is no longer interested in it.

I'd prefer that 2 gsm carriers remain. If ATT doesn't buy someone else will. What I think will happen is ATT will make enough concessions to get the DoJ to drop injunction. Or it gets battled out in courts and frankly I think ATT will win as it wouldn't be a true monopoly there are other alternative competitors out there

Market share , market share and another carrier with additional coverage.

We may need a lot of popcorn on this one. Att is already moving chips around. They said they would bring 5k+ jobs back into the US. Want to bet the administration bends.

Bringing 5,000 jobs back to the US sounds good, but what will the net be after they close hundreds of retail stores that overlap as well as reduce/consolidate/right-size staffs as they first announced back in the Spring? I will look for the original postings, but here is one analysis that spells it out. This quote from that link sums up the expected cost-cutting:
"....The deal would also provide significant cost savings, roughly $3 billion a year for the new company. Those savings, however, could have a huge effect on both the local and national economy, from real estate to media. The combined company is expected to close hundreds of retail outlets in areas where they overlap, as well as eliminate overlapping back office, technical and call center staff. It may also drastically reduce advertising spending...."

There is no way a merger/takeover of this size will result in any kind of increase that will benefit employees or consumers. This is for the shareholders and ivory tower residents. I am not indicating there is anything wrong with that, but they should not be trying to paint it as something it is not.

I agree but there is a very big benefit..................The CEO and other top ATT execs will get big ( very) bonuses.

Your right on the employees being cut from overlap and dont forget the golden handshake the T-Mobile execs will get.

Why do you think it good news for T-Mobile? If they didnt want bought they wouldnt have put their company up for sale. Why is it good news for Sprint? They are a CDMA carrier. T Mobile is GSM.

Because if this purchase goes through, it opens the door for Verizon to make an offer on Sprint.
