OTA download via web for OS 4.5?
 

I no longer have the ability to plug in my Blackberry Curve 8320 (yes, it still works after almost 5 years!) into my computer so I am unable to use Desktop Manager or do any downloading, updating, transferring of files. The USB plug on the Curve is RIP, hasta la vista, dead. So I can only update or download via the Internet through a direct link.

I need a way to reformat the Curve OTA with its OS 4.5. I've searched the internet and even the Blackberry website but nothing helps. Can anyone suggest how to reformat the Curve OTA and download the OS 4.5 via the Internet?

If you are trying to reload the device OS, the over the air (OTA) option will only be present if that function is supported by your carrier and if they have released an updated OS version for your device beyond what is currently installed on the device.

Otherwise, you will not be able to load the device OS over the air. And if your USB port is not functional, then you are out of luck unless it can be repaired (and you have it repaired)>

"Reformat" is really not the correct terminology.

Thanks Motorcycle Mama for your quick response. I used to be with Rogers but not since January 2011. I have been using the Curve via WiFi.

Before the USB plug broke if I ran into functioning problems with the Curve, I would wipe the Curve then use Desktop Manager to re-install the OS 4.5 and the Curve would work just fine again. I do not have that option now with the broken USB plug (which cannot be repaired).

So in a nutshell, you are saying I am unable to re-install the Curve OS 4.5 via the Internet.

I went to the Blackberry website (http://ca.blackberry.com/software/sm...berry7-os.html) and it says to go to Options then choose Device then Software Updates and follow the instructions. However, I do not even have "Device" listed in Options.

Without an active BlackBerry Data Plan through a service provider (eg. Rogers), you will not be able to update (or install) the device OS over the air. Period.

And again, even with an active BlackBerry Data Plan, the service provider would have to support that functionality AND have released a device OS version for your device ABOVE what you currently have installed.
