No wi-fi or email setup option!!!

Hi all,

Im new to Blackberry and im struggling to setup my personal email & connect to my home wi-fi network..

Email SetUp
Using the wizard, the only option i get is to setup email using BB enterprise server......

WiFi
I dont have the option for wifi.. I think its supposed to be in 'Manage Connections' but i dont get the wifi option.. I only get 'Mobile Network' & 'Bluetooth'

Am i missing something??

Try a battery pull to see if those come back. Also click the menu button, then show all and see if the personal email setup icons shows up. If not, reload your os.

what about the missing wi-fi option on BOLD?

is it because of the IT Policy? the BB concerned is a MTS (russian operator) and the somehow remove wi-fi option from Manage Connections menu.

how can I use wi-fi? is there a way?

many thanks in advance

miamirulz29 11-22-2009 03:19 PM

go to options and there should be wifi in there.

a.petrov 11-22-2009 03:31 PM

but it is not there ;(

a.petrov 11-22-2009 03:32 PM

neither in options there is no "wi-fi connections", nor in "manage connections" it is

JSanders 11-22-2009 03:40 PM

So, look at Options > About, what is the model number of the device list there?

bold 9000

option>about says the following:
Blackberry 9000
3G wi-fi v 4.6.0.247

a.petrov 11-22-2009 04:01 PM

therefore I thought that wi-fi was hidden by the phone company, but the hardware for wi-fi is there.

remember there is a how-to on showing the BBMaps which is sometime hidden by some operators. (on this device it is hidden as well by the way)

I think it is a similar situation here.

can you tell me what to look for when editing LBS.alx in order to have the wi-fi option appear?

JSanders 11-22-2009 04:30 PM

I can't tell you that, because in all of my experience with the Bold and helping other users here, I have never ever never seen the WiFi hidden or removed from use. As far as I know, there is not a way to remove it, except for possibly via an old corproate IT Policy.

Look at Options > Security > General Settings > scroll to the bottom at **services** do you have anything listed there as a policy name?

nope, nothing there, just the usual ***no services***

a.petrov 11-30-2009 02:19 AM

any ideas please?

JW021979 11-30-2009 05:54 AM

If you goto options and scroll to the very bottom there should be an option for WIFI connections. If not then I would take it back and get a refund.

a.petrov 12-01-2009 10:04 AM

this is a limitation by the the carrier (MTS and BeeLine, Russia).
the device is not faulty, but I need to switch the feature on somehow.

I believe they have done this in order to make their customers pay more while using data, not wi-fi

JSanders 12-01-2009 10:09 AM

a.petrov, what OS do you have loaded to the device (OPtions > About)?
