GMail app blackberry - cannot reply, multiple login requests, 404 errors

I have had several blackberry devices since the gmail app has come out. Multiple OS versions, desktop software. I suspect I've had several different versions of the gmail app too beyond 1.0 and 1.1 and both the gmail app standalone and the google services bundle. I've had 3 8700 devices and an 8800 now.

They are all using my companies BES server. I use T-Mobile. I roam all the time. Around the world - US, Europe, India....

When I first install the app it works fine. Send, receive... everything. However it eventually starts getting a 404 error when I send and since the message sent isn't stored locally I lose the contents.

No matter what I do after this I can never send again. I've tried everything:

- removing the battery for a while
- resyncing the device
- reformatting the device
- uninstalling gmail and reinstalling
- played with all of the possible BB firewall/app settings
- switching carriers

Sometimes I also get the username and password to be rejected - even though it is saved in the gmail app and works up until the point it stops.

This has been extremely frustrating. I have tried everything. I doubt it is the BES policy alone or why would it work for the first few emails? I can't rely on the gmail app because anything I type may be lost before sending.

I love the gmail app for many reasons: the ability to use labels, separate from corporate email, access to thse gmail addressbook, no combined personal/work email like when you use the BIS server.

When I use other 3rd party apps (JiveTalk for example) they work fine. It didn't during beta but that was because BES may only limit traffic to port 80 (a VERY common practice) and they had to add such support. Maybe this has something to do with it?

I would GLADLY pay for the gmail app if it worked. I have tried 2 other 3rd party Blackberry apps which do work fine, but are SLOW or missing key features.

Any ideas at all? I've googled to death. Read here, pinstack, BB Forums... I would not usually try to get an app to work so vigorously, but for me this is a killer app for the device.

Please?
