8520 does not find OS5 update
 

Hi,

I got a BlackBerry 8520 from Orange in France. I need to upgrade it from OS 4 to OS5.
But the BlackBerry does not recognize the OS5 update.

I have multiple OS for multiple phones installed on BlackBerry Desktop Manager 7. For our Belgium devices I did not have this problem.

In the Desktop Manager it only sees the local installed 4.6.1.465 that is also installed... please help me with this one...

You have to locate and delete both copies of VENDOR.XML that is on your C: drive.

Find and delete them, then restart the upgrade. It will work.

App Loader , does only find 4.1.6 update. I deleted the vendor.xml file in the C:\Program Files\Common files\Research in Motion\App Loader\vendor.xml

And still does not work , are there 2 files ? i am running w7 x64.

Yes - you must search for and delete BOTH copies of Vendor.XML

Could it be that the provider locked the firmware? Cause in apploader there is a possibility to add other apps , i browsed to the upgrade of OS5 but it it says this is not compatible for your device ... :s. So for the vendor.xml i will try tomorrow

You HAVE TO delete both vendor.xmls

Search in these locations. Make sure all files and folders are set to not be hidden.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

C:\Users\*user name*\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

Error 507 indicates the handheld does not have an OS loaded onto it. You should download the OS to a pc and install it via AppLoader (included in BlackBerry Desktop Software.
