SMS message format

My text messages are sent using the UCS2 format. I know thsi because a Linux application I work on receives messages I send as UCS2 rather than GSM 7-bit. Nonetheless in the application I need also to test receiving message as GSM 7-bit. Is there any way on my 9810 Torch that I can change some setting so that my text messages are sent as GSM 7-bit rather than UCS2 ?

Re: SMS message format

UCS2 is 16 bitcoded. Most cell phones use this type coding. there are some phones depending on software and network location that seem to be able to change but I see nothing in the 9810 documents indicating it's possible for the 9810 with most OS levels.
You can try the message icon and see if the options screen shows " general text messaging options" and then a data encoding option.
Again not all 9810's have this option. It may be an option for some countries.
