went to att today to check out bold and you wont beleive this

the att representative said the javeline or curve 8900 whatever you want to call it, will have 3G. is there any truth to this, or is he wrong? he told me the javeline will be the poor mans bold, which makes no sense if it has 3g? has anyone heard this? if it has 3g than it beats bold in every single category but built in memory.

strike2tamu 11-04-2008 09:43 PM

rumors of it possibly getting 3g after its been out a while is all I have heard.

caneau 11-04-2008 11:39 PM

Every phone will eventually have 3G, it's just a matter of time.

Built in memory is a pretty big category, at least it is for me :)

If that is the case, it will be a better device then the Bold in my opinion.

crispysaturn 11-05-2008 08:29 PM

I specifically remember someone telling me at an att store that by 2009 all of att's phones will be 3g

ezrunner 11-05-2008 08:37 PM

That is what was passed down within ATT earlier this year that by year end ALL new smartphones would be 3G

Jason Mark 11-05-2008 08:38 PM

Word is the 2nd Gen 8900 will have 3G. Also, AT&T has asked for a 3G 8900.

walds11 11-06-2008 05:36 AM

I heard this too, but we may nto see it until spring or summer of 2009.

I had a meeting about new RIM products for our company and a RIM manager had the Javelin with him. I was playing with the phone and it has 3.8M pixel camera, WiFi, GPS. It has 312 MHz processor, it is lighter then the Bold and it has the same theme as the BOLD.

and he said it should be available on T-Mobile side on January.

lambdacoreaz 11-06-2008 02:07 PM

Wouldn't RIM be doing itself a disservice by offering multiple phones of a similar nature on the same carrier because in essence isn't RIM trying to take on rival phones by offering multiple phones on various carriers for cheaper prices?

I wouldn't count on an 8900 popping up on AT&T until the Bold has enough time to work its magic...especially if from what I see here, it's a 2nd gen thing...give that another year or so because just adding 3G isn't a big enough improvement to release an entirely new generation of phones...

8900 = T-mobile

The thing is the devices are targeted towards two separate demographics. Granted they won't release one on the others heels, it really doesn't matter.

It just feels like it. But either way, BB is a BB, as long as it works. No reason forking over so much money for a little added features (except Storm)

Yes, I agree on this but with the way the deployment went surrounding the 9000, it up for grabs now on what the stratagy is. Initially, I thought that the 8900 would be for the US Corp users who did not have enough budget to purchase the Bold and stay on GSM - and reserve the Bold for intl. travel users. In some respects, the 8900 is looking to be a serious contender esp. if it has 3g.

Will the 8900 work in Japan ?? - that may be the one item that will separate it from the Bold - it will not be the true "World Phone" ??

H.

That makes perfect sense. Tmob is in line for a new BB along with ATT's Bold, Vzn's Storm. Tmob doesn't need a 3g phone now, and the 8900 will be excellent on their network for the majority of business users. Hope it comes out before the end of the year. I'll be waiting to compare it with the Storm myself. The cheaper data price is attractive ($20 vs $30 on Vzn).

SurrealCivic 11-07-2008 01:57 PM

Curve 8900 does NOT have 3G GSM. However, the Curve 8900 for CDMA does have 3G.

Curve 8900 will launch on T-Mobile very shortly, and soon after than on AT&T. It is NOT true that all phones on AT&T will have 3G.

I bought the bold, and found the speed boost underwhelming. Waiting patiently for the AT&T 8900 2 or 3g.

TMO just got their new BB, it was the flip phone. The 8900 and it variants will be going to ALL carriers over the next year.
