can 1 device be connected to 2 BES servers?

hello all,
this is my first post, but i've been getting info from this forum for some time now.
great place by the way (y)

i have a user that will be relocating. we have BES here in the office that she is hooked up to. the sister company we are working with has BES as well (different domain).

i was wondering if it was possible to have the device connect to 2 BES servers.

Not that I'm aware of. Just setup a forwarding mail option for their other account.

No, cannot be done. The SRP ID is unique to each BES and that is what the device looks at for which BES to connect to...and can only connect to 1.

I have used the procedure listed below. That was when our environment was 3.1 no teling if it works under 4.0 but hey......

Blackberry connected to two bes at once

Yes you can

If the 2 BES are on a different environment you can (2 separate email accounts):

Rename the 1st Desktop Service book, register it to the other BES and it will not overwrite it

Change the name of the service book for one of the BES's go into the desktop manager that is connected to one BES:

Open the DTM,
open the Desktop redirector settings,
Advanced,
and the MESSAGE FIELD DISPLAY NAME, is the name the service book takes, if both service books were called the same thing then I don't imagine it would be able to take both service books.

If you change the name of one servers service books then when you cradle ,

HOPEFULLY
you will get
mobileemail service books if any are set up,
Desktop service books for the server that didn't get service book name changed
NEWDESKTOP service books called whatever the string in the message field display name was......

I don't think it will matter on a name convention as long as it is obvious which service book is which.

To change the service book used for mails from the device , if/once it has got all the desired service books on it, they can either,

1, go into Options/services,
select message services
select messageing cmime,

click scroll wheel, and choose change option,
then it should let you select between service books to use, .........

2. when you create a new mail,
select the field at the top, USING
click the scroll wheel, and select the option.......

cart is right, but you can actually be on 3 different BES's if the 3 service books are named differently, but the activations have to be wired other then the original one because you will get a policy error if you try a wireless activation. the reason you can be on 3 is that the blackberry information folder in the users mailbox holds 3 sets of encryption keys.

However, I think it only syncs PIM data with one BES (the original, if I'm not mistaken)

Can someone please elaborate more on the steps to adding another BES servicebook.

I currently have by BB 8800 on a corporate BES server and I would like to add a 2nd BES from a hosted BES email provider. I need something a little quicker the the BIS for my outside email. I can live without the PIM synch I just need the email.

The question I have is if I rename my current "Desktop" service book to something else everything will be OK with my current BES setup, so then how do I add the 2nd service book. Do I just need to cradle my 8800 when the 2nd BES account is created. I get a little lost with this step, does the 2nd service book get sent to my BB, but then it's not complete until I cradle the BB.

Also, is it possible for the hosted BES to modify the name of their service book so that it is not the default "Desktop." This would probably make things a lot easier.

Lastly, anyone want to recomend a great email hosting / BES provider.

Thanks,
Jim
