Phone won't synchronize

I've downloaded and installed the latest version of the Desktop Manager and set the options to synchronize my Outlook contacts and calendar, but when I click synchronize the progress bar flashes up quickly then disappears. My contact list and calendar on my phone don't change.

Any ideas?

What OS on the PC and what version of Outlook are you using?

RichieP 01-24-2009 05:28 PM

Vista Home Premium and Office 2007.

have you setup the sync settings within desktop manager? click on sync within sync configuration to configure desktop program. Maybe you already looked at it.

I've tried reconfiguring it to just synch from the computer to the phone but the progressing message comes up and closed in less than a second.

Any ideas?

Have you specifically set up DM to configure your calendar, contacts, tasks and memos with Outlook?

RichieP 01-28-2009 05:24 PM

Yes I have, although just Calendar and Contacts, as I don't use the others.

try the following

open Desktop manager
go into Options > Data Folder Settings...
find the current data folder (should be something like C:\document and settings\yourusername\application data\blackberry...
close Desktop Manager
open the current data folder in Windows Explorer
find the "Intellisync" folder and remove/rename it
restart Desktop Manager
reconfigure Intellisync folders

Tried that. The phone flashes as if something's going to happen but the progress box just pops up then closes again straight away. No contacts or calendar on the phone have changed.

Very frustrating.

Mine kept fouling on sync and would not back up, I cleared the "Browser Data Cache" and it resolved it.

When I opened the browser and hit options and cleared it there, but it only cleared half. I opened the desktop manager and into "Back up and restore" and in the advanced options I found the Browser Data Cache and cleared it there. Then it worked perfect again.

Hope that helps.

There was a problem like this a long time ago when upgrading DM (like DM 4.1 or so)...

I can't remember all the details unfortunately, but I ended up unregistering some of the files for the interface with Outlook... I believe I found the error/fix via google search.

Sorry I don't recall the specific details, but I'd bet this is what you need to do.

What is the latest DM that you downloaded ?

Try this.

Setup outlook again and make sure you finish the setup via DM. Make sure you are choosing Outlook and nothing else. I know you know what you are doing but sometimes we miss things out because we would be frustrated. sedond thing try the cach browser thing clear history cach opps... etc then sync again see if it works. Third thing make sure you have your sync options under DM options stated to USB not BLuetooth. third thing uninstall DM and try to download from here w w w.telusmobility.com/supportcenter this is the cleanest DM 4.7 on the other hand did you have any other phones or WM phones synced with your PC? if yes disable that and delete the phone. Tell me what happens and if you could pass thru that sync thing.

good luck

Also make sure you have the device plugged directed into a USB on the PC or laptop. Don't use a hub. If you are using a PC, make sure it is plugged into a USB in the back of the PC, not the front.

RichieP 02-02-2009 09:49 AM

Cleared the cache.
It's plugged directly into a USB port on the back of the PC.
I haven't used any other phones with it.
It is selected to connect by USB, there's no bluetooth on the PC.
Only thing I haven't tried is uninstalling and installing it again. I do have the latest version installed but will try that next.

RichieP 02-04-2009 09:14 AM

Uninstaled and reinstalled it again.

Still no joy

Am I stuck with a device that won't synchronize?

Also, is it normal for the battery to run down in a day? I'm not using it for anything different than any of my previous phones.

When the phone is hooked into the USB/computer, close out desktop manager and then start it up again while phone is on USB. It has fixed my problem.

Brilliant!!!

It's always the simplest things that work.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Question Guys. Some of my contacts were added to my BB and I had them sync'd with my old work computer when I was on BES. And some of the new contacts were added and sync'd with my Mac at home. Now I have two Desktop contact list in my phone? And I can not get the entire list of all 230 contacts to sync to either my Mac or my PC at home.
On the PC I am running the latest DM and Outlook 07. On the Mac I have tried Pocket Mac which is worthless and Missing Sync. Any suggestions?
