8830 OS: 4.2.2.339/4.2.2.176/3.0.0.79 Aliant Mobility

Software For BlackBerry 8830 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.339 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.2.339
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.2.2.176
* Software Platform: 3.0.0.79
* File name: 8830EFS_PBr4.2.2_rel339_PL3.0.0.79_A4.2.2.176_Bell _Mobility.exe
* File size: 88.81MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...266376887F549B

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader
4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device. Previous OS https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E607FE7CC0E1A0

Previous OS version is posted HERE

This is the same release as Verizon's. Exactly the same release number (339). The thread title is misleading and needs to be corrected.

Exactly, later in the thread when VZW released their software it was posted that VZW's release was slightly newer, but JC never split up the thread and people (such as yourself that didn't read the entire thread) were mislead.

Any advantage to upgrading?

SheepDog 11-28-2007 10:09 PM

What he said!

Is thier any new or better implimentations in the latest OS versus mine of

v4.2.2.123 platform 3.0.0.64 ?

Louder or better or cloaking sheilds or photon torpedos or anything good to have?

I hate to do an upgrade for little reason......:?

fortunemsith 11-29-2007 09:45 AM

I updated mine last night and it helped my noise cancellation issues tremendously. Background noise has decreased by leaps and bounds. I haven't really noticed any other changes yet.

d5coupe 11-29-2007 04:37 PM

You can download the update with a Mac... but in order to extract it and apply it to your hand held you'll need a PC.

You cannot do OS updates over the air (ie download it directly to your handheld).

At least, not with any OS/device that RIM has released thus far.

okay...I guess i'll have to try and find a friend with a PC.

One more question: is it the BB User tools CD or the VZW one that I install on the PC?

Thanks so much for the help! ;-)
