Playbook display set to always on - car kit
Hi,
I am looking to have my business playbook fitted into my car for 3G use whilst out and about. I have noticed that the settings only allow for the display to remain on for 5 minutes but would like to know how I can have it display permanently on. If its being charged will it always remain with the display on? Had a search through forum and couldn't locate specific threads relating to this so hope someone can advise from their experience with a car kit. Thanks (y) |

Did you try in general settings showcase mode?

Great thanks will try this once the kit arrives for the car.

In my experience there's only a few apps that will keep the screen active and they must be visible on screen to do so. What specifically are you wanting the PB to display full time?

Thanks for the information guys. What I will be running is live streaming of internet radio, some MP3's, sat nav and general internet browsing (when not driving of course!)
Will see how I get on and post back my findings on various software and will try showcase mode although I appreciate Alice advising it will still turn off but its worth a shot. |

If your car has some kind of bluetooth then all PB audio can be sent to car's bluetooth and it doesn't matter if the screen goes off. Magellan compass will keep the screen active.

There isn't any way to do that on the Playbook that I'm aware of it, and it sucks. There are a number of applications where you want the screen always on when on AC power, and there's no support for it.
This would be trivial for Blackberry to support (just a selection under settings to time out the screen "Never") but it's not there. I've been hamming on this for well over a year and despite two software updates since I got my Playbook Blackberry has not fixed it -- they obviously don't think the 30 seconds of time to add this as an option matters to anyone. |
