Classic - Backup

Ok, this is my final thread for the Classic (pre-purchase). Now that I've covered the battery and permissions, I can't seem to find (other than Protect) a way to backup the unit. Will the BB desktop manager work with this device or is that now out? If not, is there other software that will work with the Classic? I'm wondering if my old .ipd files can be imported into the new phone. I'm not looking for any cloud backup workflow, just a regular USB connection and create a file on my local PC.

Thanks again!

Read this link. It gives info on backup and other features available in Link a replacement for the Desktop Manager

Re: Classic - Backup

To add, Link is to BB10 what Desktop Manager is to BBOS. I haven't had a problem with switching from 9900 to Z10 and then to Passport, but some individuals have experienced lost data. Also, it is buggy as a Florida summer evening when it comes to sync'ing with Outlook, going by complaints on the forums.

Protect does not backup BB10 devices to BlackBerry servers as it does for BBOS devices. The other features are there, but those aren't that important. The OTA backup was the valuable feature to users.

There are third-party apps that will backup to the cloud (Box, etc.), device storage, or SD card. I don't use any of them. I gather there are some key databases they don't back up, I don't recall which.

Thanks for the info although I didn't see any explicit directions reading the old .ipd files within the manual but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I give Android credit here that you can backup to the SD card w/o any 3rd party apps but I'm not familiar with any and how efficient they are in backing up the whole phone. Anyway, I'll research migrating from OS7 to BB10 and then decide if I want to get this phone this week.

Thanks again!
