Say if when you went to sleep, your blackberry has like 4 battery bars left, then you plug it in the charger and you fall asleep for 9 hours. it doesnt take 9 hours to charge 1/5 of a battery. So thats how you over charge it, and the more you over charge it, the less battery life youre going to have

MidnightDraven 09-25-2009 10:09 AM

that is not true.
you cannot "overcharge" the li-on batteries in blackberries.

Hi I'm also new to the BB 8520. Got it yesterday. I fully charged it and it has lasted me about 24hour and the battery is nearly empty after extensive usage. The reason that I ask - I'm from a Nokia background and don't know what to expect from a BB.

Also does it matter if I got GTalk running the whole time opsoed to just the standard BIS Email service? Battery usage wise.

Thanks in advance.

MidnightDraven 09-26-2009 06:03 AM

yes it matters.
programs running in the background eat at your battery AND memory.

I have same problem. new phone charge lasting less than a day. what and how to turn off anything draining battery. any help gratefully received.

Mattywalnuts 11-24-2009 07:58 PM

I wouldn't expect the world out of this battery. I'm a long time blackberry user and while you should expect up to maybe two full days in my opinion with heavy use for most bbs, the new curve only comes with a 1150 mah battery that is rated for 270 talk minutes, which is small. I just got my wife the 8530 and she can go about 30 hours with a considerable amount of use including Pandora.

The battery should improve after a couple of days of use.

Also i think when you have poor signal reception, battery life will get reduced in a faster way. That is what i noticed while in office ( poor signal) and back in home ( full signal)

NormanK 12-15-2009 01:26 PM

Nothing seemed to work new battery etc started off better but soon only lasted 6 to 7 hours with everything apart from phone turned. Now sent away hopefully to be fixed/replaced? Disappointing as a likeable mobile:-(

The first day i use my BB it didn't last me the full day, but then i found how to close open apps and i can get 2 full days, but nothing more.

My wifi is on all the time, cause i'm to lazy to turn it on when at home and off when out.

Hi all-- I'm having the exact same problem. Got my phone Jan. 2 and the battery life has been phenomenal. Yesterday I forgot my phone at home so it was charging for like 24 hours. I don't know if it's coincidence but it suddenly wasn't holding the charge well when I started using it last night. I am wondering if I over charged it. I don't know how to fix it if that's the case. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer- Denise

Try closing out of programs that you are running in the background. Hold Alt and press Escape. This will pull up a box where you can shuffle though all the programs that are currently running. Close out of the ones you arent currently using.

Another thing you can do is turn off your wifi and bluetooth (heavy battery eaters). Worse comes to worse, you just might have to buy a new battery. You can get them on ebay for 5 or 6 bucks

Also, to gypsycat, you shouldnt have to worry about overcharging your battery. Blackberrys automatically shut off the battery charger when the battery is fully charged, no matter how long it is left plugged in.

Hi Uncle Fester- you know what, the solution was even easier than that. I had never turned it off since I bought it. My husband just turned it off, I left it off all night, and the next morning it was back to normal. I have since set it up to shut off automatically at night just for good measure. My husband is tech-y, and he says that just turning it off probably did it, and that it didn't need to be off all night. I never turned off my wi-fi or bluetooth. Glad to hear the reassurance not to worry about overcharging. Good to know. (tho I still don't know what caused it to happen) Thanks so much for writing. Have a good weekend!

use to last for 5 days!? i bought mine exactlly one week ago and not once has it survived past 2 days, i have to charge it regularly

Noodle22 02-06-2010 04:38 PM

2 days is pretty normal for charging with regular use. If you use a holster it puts the phone to sleep while in the holster and that does save battery life.

I charge mine once every two days :) Power users will have to do it more.

lordtrek 02-10-2010 05:50 PM

i get about 18 hours :D
but i talk for at least 3h a day, bluetooth is on 24/7 and i surf the web for at least 30 minutes a day, oh and at least 50 sms msgs, and 10 emails :D
so the battery is solid, could be a bit better but solid,
when i ease of i get maybe 2 days

Phylicia 02-11-2010 09:07 PM

The battery on my 8520 lasts a good 2 days, at least. I use it like crazy, one of the best smartphones, battery wise, I have ever owned.
