ICQ Contact list problem.. BUG
 

so if any of you are like me, you have a really long list of old icq contacts. a handfull of regular contacts, and a hundred or so people who dont log on very often... ok so mabey Im unique...

the point is, that ICQ in the blackberry flakes out and shows your contacts wrong. so Bill might send you a mesage, but it shows up in your list as if it came from Bob. you might also notice that your contacts are all named wrong. you will have people in your list that you've never seen before..

if you refresh your list by hitting apps button, then scroll down to "refresh contact list" - it will clear up the disrepancies, change all the contacts to those you are familiar with, and fix the messages coming from who bit. so that works. but you have to do that every time you load up icq.

the issue is simple. people on icq can change there name to anything they want at any time. but they wont show up with a different name in your list unless you reload there info and apply it. and if they have used some wild/obscure characters in there names, (ie, the (C) logo) then at some point icq will have deleted there nickname and left an empty field there. so what happens is that the blackberry screws up the list because it cant account for the blank contacts..

so get after your old friends to fix there nicknames, and maybe icq and RIM will fix this contact list snafu..

it would be nice if they would give you the option to store your updated list online, and edit it on the fly... but that would be in a perfect world...

There are other problems as well, like frequent requests to add contacts from out of the country. Not sure if they are legit or ways for someone to hijack your phone. Time will tell what it is about but it is certainly annoying.

solution: stop using ICQ like the rest of the world
