"Show Keyboard" Option

Since I have transitioned to the 5.0 realm, I discovered that upon pressing the BB key in portrait or landscape mode, there is no longer the option for "show keyboard".

Swiping does not bring the keyboard up either.

I discovered this when trying to show a friend how to clear the Event Log on the Storm.

Is there a new way to clear the event log with OS 5.0?

I use MeterBerry on the Storm, it will show your event log.

It's strange that RIM decided to link the soft keyboard to each screen instead of the system as a whole, with the Storm 1 I've always found places where I wanted the keyboard but couldn't get it because someone had overwritten the menu item!

Tap the BB icon twice, then it shows up

where are you seeing when you press the menu key that you dont have the option for Show Keyboard?

jason1114 11-06-2009 03:41 PM

I see it now your referring to on the home screen where its no longer there in the menu

XelhaBB 11-06-2009 03:42 PM

Yes in portrait. Check out what happens when you rotate to landscape. Weird!

However if you raise the keyboard in portrait and rotate to landscape, it disappears. It also won't work if you press the key in landscape mode. However if you activate it in portrait mode, rotate, hit the BB key again, the "show keyboard" option appears in the drop down menu.

Weird!

I never saw the issue in portrait mode since i dont use qwerty and just suretype

jason1114 11-06-2009 03:56 PM

When i activate mine using the assigned button in portrait and then rotate to landscape the keyboard stays

jason1114 11-06-2009 04:06 PM

sorry not on the home screen like you need it ......( whats that noise when pac-man dies)

Yea it sucks that you have to do a Full Keyboard on Portrait mode vice Landscape, but it works if you are trying to erase or stop the BB from keeping logs on your phone.
Thanks alot for the advice Jason1114
