OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.1465 (All Languages)
This release will work on any carrier's 9900 device by following the directions below.

Package Version: 7.0.0.1465
Consisting of:
Applications: 7.0.0.296
Software Platform: 5.0.0.496
File name: 9900AllLang_PBr7.0.0_rel1465_PL5.0.0.496_A7.0.0.29 6 .exe
File size: 226MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download this file: http://support.vodafone.de/publicfil...A7.0.0.296.exe

Instructions for installing on the 9900:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

No, each OS is specific for the model.

Re: Latest OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

I am using that build. I bought my Bold unsub'd unlocked, came with stock (unbranded, no splash) .261 and I quickly installed .317 (arghh) didn't go so well, plus I could not find wikitude, really poor power mngt imo. So I downloaded and installed .296 (multilang support) been running this for almost 6 days. Battery levels seem to be pretty decent.

I am looking forward to an actual software update from my carrier (Bell), hopefully take advantage of hotspot and nfc support.

The 9900 is smooth, I have yet to see it stuck on 'thinking' (read hourglass) and the touchscreen is responsive. I like the fact that you can manage the various Panels on the Homescreen, you can even remove them all except for one. In addition to recognizing most the languages and fonts thrown at it, it also comes with the added benefit off allowing the user to input in a variety of languages.

The camera is not as good as the one I used on my 9780. It is the same camera that is on the Playbook, but I feel that they should have included auto-focus (disappointed that they did not) luckily, I do not need my smartphone to have a camera that takes great close up shots (macro, documents), my needs are more along the general pictures of rooms or areas.

The browser is pretty decent, I didn't run any tests, as they depend on site/connection/etc... It got me where I needed to go much more quickly than my 9780.

Re: Latest OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

I can't get it to show up and load. I deleted vendor code and still nothing. I did notice for Win 7 users that I would also have to delete the vendor code from within the compatibility files also. I cannot find this compatibilty file listed in apploader. Can anyone assist?

Re: Latest OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

That was not true for me. all I had to delete was the vendor file from c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and then go about my business normally.

I am using Windows 7

Re: Latest OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

Yep won't work. I go to update from 261 to this version and only thing offered is an update for a wireless music sync. I have changed OS's a million times and never had this issue.

Re: Latest OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

This might have worked before but it certainly does not work anymore. Even after deleting vendor code and trying loader, it doesn't recognize an OS to put on the phone. Other people have tried to with the same results today.

So is the consensus, then, that OS7 units that are carrier locked cannot be FW upgraded until the carrier-approved version is released?

No, that's not any consensus.

No, one person does not make a consensus.
That's called jumping to a conclusion :(

I upgraded my Rogers Bold 9900 using the above instructions. No problemo. Running Bundle 1465 now.

I am crossing my fingers it fixes the damn back button problem!!

No. I have tried about 10 times; even using DM too. The only thing that I can think of is that the vendor code is not getting deleted. In the instructions, it says to go into compatibility files and delete vendor code, even if deleted in apploader files too. I have never had to do this before and cannot find this compatibility files that the instructions speak of. I have done tons of OS loads with no issues so don't know what the issue is here.

Is your DM going online and finding the carrier version of the OS for your device, overriding the one you downloaded?

There should be an option within Desktop Manager to disable this.

Pokey, did you go into the program files (x86) folder? Or just the program files folder.

I updated my Rogers 9900 to 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 last night with no issue whatsoever. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it updated compared to prior bb's.

I'm unlocked on bell with the rogers bold running win 7 ultimate 64 bit. And I installed desktop manager immediately before with the latest version downloaded direct from rim.

I went to into the x86 folder as just the program files folder won't get me into the apploader. I've done a million of these and never had an issue until now.

I'm having the exact same problem.

I've performed OS updates countless times and it's always worked until now.

The preloaded OS is so buggy I can't stand it. for example:
It freezes for minutes at a time.
The back button is now the task manager button.
The touchscreen is erratic in webpages.
You can't exit apps quickly as the spinning CPU icon looks frozen.
Uninstalling even a small app takes several minutes.
The battery life is horrible

Re: Latest OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

I finally got it to work! Open your c: drive then search for "vendor." Even though I had deleted it in apploader, it still showed up in some folder which was under app data or something like that. Deleted it and voila, it showed up on DM. Strange......

I was able to upgrade my OS using my home Win 7 PC. Same simple instructions with vendor.xml deletion.

My work XP laptop doesn't work (I have full local admin rights).

This one which is:

Package Version: 7.0.0.1465
Consisting of:
Applications: 7.0.0.296
Software Platform: 5.0.0.496

has japanese in the languages listed as supported but input doesn’t work.

The release from Rogers which is:

Package Version: 7.0.0.1346
Applications: 7.0.0.261
Software Platform: 5.0.0.464

japanese input works fine.

If your experience differs please post.

Pokey - this is your issue. I had this added to the site years ago.

You can try the release from BT.

(Sorry, I am not yet allowed to post URL's... Account recovery seems to fail and thus required me to register a new account.)

Package:
9900jAllLang_PBr7.0.0_rel1465_PL5.0.0.496_A7.0.0.2 96_BT.exe

It is the jAllLang version, and thus should include proper Japanese support.

I'm currently downloading it, will be back with the results soon.

Edit:
I installed the above package, which updated several items and also added full Japanese support.
Yay!

Re: OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

For my case, I deleted the vendor.xml file in the apploader directory on RIMM but also found another file, that had vendor.xxx but it was not in the same directory but somewhere in RIMM sub directory. Once that was removed, Loader picked up the new OS FW to upgrade.

And yes, this is winXP.

Can you be specific about how you fixed it by saying where the file is located, please?

Thanks

Re: OS: 9900 7.0.0.1465/7.0.0.296 (All Languages)

From the first thread -

Note that this is not the most recently released version for the 9900.
