Blackberry 8300 pictures

Hi all I just thought I'd post some pictures of the new 8300 which I compared for size next to a Pearl. I dont have any other Blackberries, so I cant compare with others I'm afraid.

I've posted a few dimensions on another post but I'll list them here so its all together.

Side by side - no diff in length....

Trying to show the diff in size...

Not sure what the screen on the 8700 is like (size wise) but the screen on the 8300 is about 520mm x380 (viewing area), where the Pearl is about 390mm x 370mm. I've got both sitting in my hands and I like the size of the 8300. Measuring straight across the body of the 8300 it is 600mm (width) by about 1007mm in length. The keypad area is about 550mm x 27mm. Hope this gives you a bit more of an idea of the size of the system

Close up of the 8300 keyboard...

The build is better than the Pearl - The side rails are a soft, rubbery texture which carries aound the top and bottom of the handset. The voice command, volume buttons and the camera button are slightly larger and more rectangulat in shape than the Pearls (which are more rounded ) There is not that awful "hole" on the top of the 8300 like there is on the pearl (between the battery door and the phone casing.

Trying to show the "Hole" on the top of the Pearl - There are 2 on the 8300, but they are alot smaller and less noticeable

Sorry about the coasters holding them upright!! This shows both the handsets are curved...

With the Pearl I can slide the battery door off without pushing down the latch, I cant do that with the 8300 (although the latch is in exactly the same position as the Pearls) The difference is when you remove the batt door, the silver latch is more prominent so I suppose it gets a better grip on the batt door.

There doesnt seem to be any squeeking or creaking and I'm giving the handset a good squeeze all over. The trackball itself is diff to the pearl though. The Pearls trackball is harder, what I mean is when I spin the trackball on the 8300 it slightly depresses although not enough to make a selection, where the Pearls does not.

Hope this help all, anything else just shout,

Earphone jack size on the 8300is 3.5 mm? Looks 2.5 mm in pics.

As long as the screen is the same size as the 8700 and 8800, I'll take it. The keyboard looks exactly like what I am wanting to get to replace my Pearl and the form factor looks great compared to the Pearl where you can really see how svelte this thing is.

trevolly 05-13-2007 10:35 AM

The keyboard seems ok, I've quite big thumbs too, the prob I had was coming from the "standard" phone key layout! Its def a 3.5mm jack

xxaarraa 05-13-2007 10:47 AM

I'm sold. Rim's got another winner!

rivviepop 05-13-2007 12:35 PM

Thanks for the pics!

Can you use the camera in each one on SuperFine mode and take a pic of the same thing (in the same lighting, of course) for us to compare the quality of the output? I'm really interested in seeing what kind of improvement (if any) in actual quality has been made in using a 2mpx, maybe they've improved the CCD et. al.

:)

*grumble grumble*

It's going to be forever until TMo gets theirs-I'm stuck with this Pearl til then. Boo for the suretype!

trevolly 05-13-2007 01:35 PM

Did what you asked, 2 cuddly toys (for the different colours)!!

I have taken two pics with the Blackberry Pearl (Fine @ 1280x1024 and SuperFine @ 1280x1024)

Fine

Superfine
http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/8...fineit2.th.jpg

And these are the Blackberry 8300...(1600x1200) The Blackberry 8300 also lets you choose different color effect (Normal, black & white and sepia)

You can also choose to have the viewfinder as full screen (couldnt seem to do this on Pearl)

Fine

Superfine
http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/3...finevu8.th.jpg

Cant see any diff between them tbh. The file size between fine and superfine on the 8300 was virtually double.

(y) Thanks! I was waiting for someone to do this. I even asked someone at Crackberry to do this and no one respond back.

Huh, I'm right there with you -- the 8300 looks a little more overexposed (not much, just a tad) but that could be a variable within reason. It doesn't look like the pixel quality or colour balancing has gotten any sort of upgrade. :(

exilio 05-13-2007 05:17 PM

Awesome pics. Thanks for posting them.

docvenom04 05-13-2007 06:05 PM

Is the speaker still horribly muddy like the pearls? That's the only reason I want another BlackBerry, is because of the sound of the speaker and MP3 ringers sound like crap on the pearl.

trevolly 05-13-2007 06:18 PM

Nope they sound fine!

They've done a good job on this I feel. I work in the mobile phone industry and really thought hard about getting the Pearl when it came out, but one of the things that put me off was the poor speaker on it. I wasnt worried about "stunning" mp3 playback (got an Ipod Nano for that!), but I wanted my ringtones to sound what they were supposed to be!!

The video playback is good too, (fast moving scenes do pixelate though) one thing I have noticed though is that if u set a video file off playing and then select full screen, the sound lags behind the video. The way around this I found is select full screen 1st then set off the video file.

takeshi 05-13-2007 06:18 PM

Pixel count's not the only determining factor of picture quality. It's one of many. I don't know why people fixate on that figure so much.

Perfect Storm 05-13-2007 06:27 PM

Probably because back in the day it was a pretty good determinate of quality. Nowadays lens and physical size of the sensor matter much more.

coldconfession13 05-13-2007 06:53 PM

thanks for putting a pic of the width difference I thought it was going to be wider I am definately getting the curve

secrecyguy,

I'm sorry to hear that no one at CrackBerry.com responded to your post. :-o The MODs are usually very helpful.

I did reply but was away for the weekend. However my response was i couldnt do a comparison shot of a Pearl and 8300 as i dont have a Pearl.

But now that someone has done it, i can see there isnt a lot of difference.
