Problems with battery drain, help please

Hi, I apologise upfront for my lack of understanding on the matter. My dad (who is even less technically minded) has a Bold 9780 that he used for business.
The main problem is that while in the middle of a call he is getting a call failure which is often followed by the message 'Battery drained, shutting down'.
When this happens, the battery bar shows almost full. He then has to charge the phone to be able to turn it back on.

Im not sure this is correct but I went into the settings and it says the current software is 6.0 Bundle 905.

Problem 2.)

I tried to scan for software updates and ended up realising that he cannot get an internet connection, emails are not coming through either and when i try and setup facebook it says that this is not included in the data plan.
This doesnt make any sense as he has an unlimited data package with T-Mobile.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

If this device is owned by your father, he will need to get a BlackBerry data plan. This not the same as a regular data plan. Without this plan, he will not be able to send or receive emails, use apps like Facebook, etc.

Could you explain how this works for me?

dont worry, ive just looked into it. I think its a bit shady that t-mobile knew the sim was for a blackberry and failed to mention the extra plan needed.

Do you happen to know much about the battery drain problem?

Battery drain depends on use. It could be a damaged battery. Try a new one and see if it still happens. Make sure it is a true BB battery, not a cheap knock off.
