service provider??

I just bought a q5 from someone. He said he didn't know the original service provider and there is no sim card in it. I need to find out the service provider so I can take it there to get it unlocked. Don't know how to find out the carrier of the phone, and nothing comes up when I turn it on. Anyone know how to find this out?

Re: service provider??

Is there no carrier splash screen when the device boots?

Are you sure it is locked?

The info at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlackBerry_Q5 may help you. Use the model number and country to narrow down to carrier(s).

However, I gather from reading the forums that you might be better off using an unlocking service instead of the carrier. Or, that would be an option if you fail to get carrier to unlock it....If it is locked.

Re: service provider??

The Blackberry Q5 is the second Blackberry 10 device with both a touch screen and a querty keyboard. There are some major improvements from the last Blackberry generation which includes a more intuitive keyboard which eliminates errors, longer battery life, a light and durable design, and most importantly, better performance in the OS 10. Canadian carriers including Bell, Telus, Koodo, Rogers, and Fido are to be releasing the Blackberry Q5.
Easily switch Sim cards between GSM Carriers using the same Blackberry Q5

* If you are travelling, buy a local SIM card and save on roaming fees
* Unlock your Blackberry device from the comfort of your own home
* No complicated rooting, software, or cables required
* Simply enter the remote unlock code we e-mail you
* There is absolutely no risk of damaging your Blackberry by unlocking it.
