Close Apps in background!

I can see that memory on device is 16 mb on battery pull out but after some time down to 5/6 mb no third party applications installed on Bold,

I can see 5 applications ICONS all the time running in background
alt+Escape press i can see following apps

messeges
phone
home screen
browser
BB messenger

are they slowing or eating memory !
can I close them
or is that how all BB has!

CoDudette 06-03-2009 06:21 AM

Yes, all the BB's have the above mentioned running the background.

16mb after a battery pull? really?! I have a gadzillion 3rd party apps on my bb and i still end up with 35mb after a battery pull.

why don't you do an OS upgrade with the latest one which is stickied at the top of this forum? that might solve the memory leak problem.

oppsss,,.. no updates available...
v4.6.0.144 installed

I did check with Dm says no SW updates available, and this is Corporate BB so i don't wanna mess with that!

Is there anyway I can improve my App memory, i have deleted unwanted language packages from device, plus no third party apps like Gmail etc.
basic device with 4 third party themes!

One more question, If i format the device Do i need to get activation frm IT dept, or it should be activated directly (without IT dept) help.

On my BES, I can reactivate without intervention from IT. The handheld will "phone home" and start the process all on its own.

Upgrade your OS!

CoDudette 06-05-2009 05:30 AM

i'm on BIS so i wouldn't know how upgrades/OS updates work on BES. maybe it shouldn't be such a huge deal?

I think have lastest OS on Device, Telstra Has 144 (263 package) is the latest one!

As already stated, these 5 applications will always show running. The only issue you may run into with memory leaks / lag would be with the Browser. This will only happen if you leave the browser running on a page that renders/refreshes constantly, such as a weather site. Make sure to close out of it by pressing the Menu Key and selecting Close, or press and HOLD the escape (back) key.

Other than that, you shouldn't run into any issues with these 5 applications.

But I will bet that your themes are gone...... those are big! Just pics a nice background and keep it lean and mean!

CoDudette 06-06-2009 02:00 AM

yes! deleting unwanted themes is always a good idea!

tiandi 06-07-2009 01:26 AM

upgrade ur OS to the lastest one .(.266)

Remove unwanted themes,games and apps.

I don't think u need all of them.

My bold's free mem always to be about 40M.

DTG,MAIL and all of official apps on it.

You can also see if your databases are huge. Receiving HTML emails loads pics and stuff like that.
options --> Status --> BB button and click databases and see where you have a lot of megs being eaten up. My browser cache always has like 1 meg, and I need to clean it frequently. Also, I have 2000 + emails a week, so that fills up fast, too.

Themes take up a lot of space.
If you upgrade your OS remove any options you don't use, but using BES I'm not sure which ones to tell you. 3rd party apps suck, like Viigo which loads all its articles into your phone mem and not your mem card (which makes me mad!).

Hope this helps.
