Proof of 7130c on Cingular website

My buddy found this while investigating warranty work for his 8700c. Check out the link - https://www.cingular.com/customer_se...ent_protection

You'll see the 7130c listed as a non-qualifying device.

Excellent. A CDMA based BlackBerry running on Cingular's GSM/GPRS/EDGE network. Outstanding progress. Can't wait for the tech support calls on that one.

Actually, it has some weight, although I think the unofficial name is the 7130u. It will UMTS-based (extension of GSM) and will likely be marked as a 7130c for the Cingular rollout. The 7130e was the high-speed 7100 series CDMA device. You can look at my thread just posted earlier today on this subforum for somewhat proof of it... notice the Sound="Tunes7130c" tag in the XML.

Code:

                <!-- 7130u uCharm -->
                <os radio="UMTS" series="7100" Colour="True" Theme="Normal" JVMLevel="1.0" Memory="Large" KeyboardType="Reduced" Sound="Tunes7130c" SystemSize="normal" MMS="True" Bluetooth="True" Backdrop="68M_240x260">0x84000907</os>

Then why would they use the 7130 naming convention? That makes no sense to me at all. Otherwise, Verizon could just as well have sold the 7100w or 7100e.. Heck, call it the 700w and screw up all the Treo users!

I am told the 7130c is going to be the replacement device for the 7100 - so it will be EDGE/GPRS based (not UMTS). Basically it will be a Suretype device with the internals of a 8700 (so x-scale processor, screen, better styling, etc.).

I dunno. :-)

I was under the impression there was going to be a 7130t available at some point in the next few months from T-Mobile (mid-year or so?), where the added xx30 would be the high-speed version of the handheld (EDGE, UMTS, etc). Considering that Cingular already has UMTS available and T-Mobile will have it within a year and a few months and most of the major carriers in Europe and Asia (and Rogers in Canuckville) have UMTS already, then I'd assume that the above XML (in previous post) would have some weight to them...

:-)

Well I hope the 8700e or 8700v is released on Verizon.

jibi 03-04-2006 06:50 PM

8700v is Vodafone's marking... ;-)

This just in on HOFO

No ideas there if it's UMTS or not. Rumor says May release.

I was close to buying an 8700c, until the complaints about enterprise activaion surfaced and Cingular yanked it from their sales page.

Now I'll wait for this and keep all my 7100-sized accessories.

apa1906 04-02-2006 02:15 PM

I'm sure that it will be out soon. I have seen the 7130 for SunCom which is also GSM/GPRS, not sure of official release though. Cingular and SunCom always have similar phones. I will provide pics tomorrow!!

nyc2socal 04-02-2006 03:13 PM

I find this thread interesting.. Lots of interest from the Cingular community to get a 7130e type phone.. and here I am on Verizon, wishing that they would get their 8700 (with evdo).. Of course, the interest may only be because of the potential of a higher speed data network.

Jagga 04-02-2006 09:25 PM

So apa where are those pics .... in EST Daylight Savings Zone ... its getting close to the end of the day.

You'll find lots of 7130e VZW users who would like to see an 8700 BB on Verizon, myself included. I do so much email that a full QWERTY keyboard would better fit my needs.

rjharary 04-03-2006 11:45 AM

they should drop the 71** series it hurts to type for long periods of time
