Backup Curve

Whenever I try to do a manual or automated backup of my curve I get the message "The Data was not recognized by the device" whenever it gets to the profiles. I did a search and was told to delete my profiles, which I did, but its still happening.

Any thoughts?

Did you reboot the BB? Pull battery, etc etc?

cellguy 02-05-2008 11:20 AM

Tried the battery pull, still does it.

Any other ideas? I'm really stumped on this one. I know tha since I cant backup my device Murphy's Law is going to kick in and my device will crash catastrophically

What version of Desktop Manager are you running--DM4 4.3 is not compatible with Outlook 2000 or 2002.

I'm running 4.2.2.14 (April 26 2007). It's sync's fine with Outlook (2003) just can't run the backup any more.

ricpac 02-05-2008 08:51 PM

have you tried reinstalling DM?

cellguy 02-05-2008 08:52 PM

Yup, even tried it on my home laptop with a fresh install. It's gotta be something on the blackberry but I'm buggered if I can figure out what!

JSanders 02-05-2008 08:52 PM

This error is routinely a result of some problem in the RMS database.

Can you do an Advanced Backup?

ricpac 02-05-2008 08:57 PM

how about if you wipe it out? but you would risk data that you've been wanting to back-up to begin with

Just tried it, got the same error when it hit the profiles file.

JSanders 02-05-2008 09:02 PM

ok in the Advanced Backup, unselect the profiles and skip this time, and let's see if you can get some success somewhere.

cellguy 02-05-2008 09:04 PM

Ok, did that and it works fine. Tried deleting Profiles, did a hard reboot and did it again. Really weird, eh?

JSanders 02-05-2008 09:06 PM

Really weird, but nice--yes!

So if you put Profiles back in the backup, will it run smooth?

cellguy 02-05-2008 09:09 PM

Nope, does it again. just dosn't like that file. Does theme affect profiles? Could changing my theme to a standard BB one makea diff?

JSanders 02-05-2008 09:12 PM

Themes should not affect profiles.

Let's try this (you seem dogged determined to get this working, me too):
Make a change to your profiles, adjust a couple of items in a profile like the rings or tune... and save. Maybe this will re-save this Profile database.

Go back and try the backup again.

i hope i don't encounter this but i learned something "advanced" today (other than cleaning and reinstalling) and this will be in my subscriptions
