Possible to get personal email before BES email is set up?
I have been using T-Mobile BIS email without problems on BB Curve 8320. Changed jobs and need to get work email to my Blackberry. I called T-Mobile and had them switch me from BIS to BES. As expected, personal email stopped working. It has been more than 2 days, so T-Mobile provisioning should be complete. I have not had a chance to get my work BES email activated yet, but wanted to go ahead and get personal email set up again. Did the set-up but no personal email gets pushed to my Blackberry. I resent service books, did not help. I did notice however that I did not get the usual confirmation message after resending service books.
Does the BES email have to be set up completely before I can set personal email, or could this be some other issue? |
yes including with the BES plan is BIS access. make sure that Tmobile has you on the correct plan. you should be able to set up BIS before you activate BES.

make sure the IT policy for the BES allows you to get BIS in the first place too..

well without having activated on the BES the OP wouldnt have any IT policy yet

^^^ true, but once he does activate the BES, if the IT policy has something against BIS, then bis/bes won't work at the same time .. maybe i read the OP wrong? I thought he wanted both on his device?

yep, but the way i read the question (could very well be wrong) is that the OP wanted to set up BIS before BES was setup

You are correct, I wanted BIS before BES.
But I did check already to make sure that I can keep BIS After T-Mobile Blackberry service couldn't get this fixed, I got bumped to RIM tech support. They worked their magic and got things working again... |

well the BES Admin can restrict all BIS access, so that the ONLY email you send would be through the BES email. The IT admin can remotely disable other messaging services.

you can also control the firewall remotely to Block BIS email altogether from coming to the device. BES 4.1 and OS 4.2 required.

if you just have a BIS plan you cant connect to a BES anyway, you need a BES plan.

How do you think when you are connected to a BES that you get all your emails? How do you think the BES even sends out information? BIS and BES are entirely separate services. The fact that carrier's don't offer BES-only data plans has nothing to do with the faulty assumption that BES relies on BIS for message delivery (it does not).
I don't even see where anyone said that BIS was an internet provider -- where was this first stated in this thread? |
I want to get some personal e-mail accounts on my device but it's on a BES right now and I can't find anywhere in the IT policy that restricts the use of personal e-mail accounts.
