Playbook: use for making phone calls together with BB possible ?

I do not see that the Bridge function supports using the Playbook for making phone calls - is that true ?
Or am I at least able to pair the PB with the BB using Bluetooth and use it like a hands-free speaker phone ?

No, you cannot use your PB as a handsfree extension, though the PB will notify you of an incoming call.

I get one anyway, however, this is something I will miss.

But, thanks for your quick answer.

How will you miss the feature that was never there :?

Why would you need the PlayBook to be able to make phone calls when your BlackBerry is right there and it has a speakerphone?

Because I am spoiled and lazy. RIM shall make it possible for me.

i miss it because i would expect it.

I see the PB rather as a large screen for the BB which I mount in my car.
having a phone capability built in looks naturally for me.

Re: Playbook: use for making phone calls together with BB possible ?

Why do you expect it? Was that in the specifications or even the rumors? How could you expect it?

Does the vaunted iPad make calls? It's just like an iPhone, right? And the Samsung Galaxy Tab?

Sorry - tablets are not "natural" phones.

Clearly my expectations are different.

Re: Playbook: use for making phone calls together with BB possible ?

I dont complain - dont get me wrong.
(I even had not answered this thread again if not others had started to submit posts)

The specs of what the "bridge" will do are very soft - because it depends on the software. Rim could add a feature like this.

And, if I was in charge of the playbook development, this would be a thing I had on my top priority list.

Imagine:
Mount the PB in your car, Enter the car with the BB somewhere in your pocket, and, have everything you normally use within seconds on the PB (phone, addresses, mail, appointments etc.)
A nice addition would be navigation, stereo, Aircondition management.

Leave the car, and, nothing of your data is left on the PB.
And, this will even work if this is a rented car.

QnX makes things like this (without BB connectivity) which are built in major car brands.

I see where you're going, nobody, but I also have different expectations.

As far as the phone, if I needed it, I would get a hands-free BT kit, or a car that had it built in. I just don't see me using the PlayBook that way.

For that matter, I don't see removing the PlayBook from my bag to mount it in the dash or wherever. BT pairing with my car, maybe; but I don't know what for. Now a diagnostics app, that might be cool, but I'm beyond wanting to work on cars anymore.

Still, interesting things to think about.

I have most of this built-in to my car now. When I get in my car, the phone connects automatically. When I get out, the phone disconnects automatically. Plus, I have absolutely no interest in e-mail or appointments on my dash. No thanks... no need for the distraction.

People have different desires obviously.

Everybody would be happy if the factory built in card PC had a Blackberry bridge. Then you could decide to use it or not.

Wouldn't be that bad.

A few days ago I was thinking the same thing.

I came home, my torch battery was almost dead, I placed the cellphone on the charger 12 feet from me, I got the playbook and sat down on the media-room recliner and started surfing. A few minutes later the cellphone rang and I saw the Caller ID on the PB and the naturan insctinc was to start looking where to answer.

(use it as a Bluetooth set... and I think there are no tech limitations)

l definitely agree with the original poster, it seems only natural that the current wifi pb could be used as a phone with a bb. When a call came to my bb I also looked for a place to answer on the bridged pb in my hands. after all, this isn't some trendy hipster's ipad toy gadget, it's a Blackberry! -So wake up RIM and make it happen with an update soon!!! -also netflix and an actual working Quake3 app please. :) Okay, yes, I like toys too. :p

Just wanted to add that I'm extremely happy with the Playbook. I am very impressed with it's power; it is truly a multitasking tablet and such a solid little unit. Ipad was very nice looking but compared to this little powerhouse tank, a little weak, I felt. Anyhow, I'm sure that future updates will come up to address the original poster's idea/comment. ;-)

Re: Playbook: use for making phone calls together with BB possible ?

Well, people do have lots of opinions.

I love how my iPad gets my corporate e-mail without being bridged to anything. I love the Kindle app on my iPad. And I REALLY WISH that the PlayBook did both of them. In due time, I assume.

Until then, the PlayBook sits next to my Kindle on the island of unused toys. The fact that the PlayBook doesn't make phone calls doesn't even make my top ten disappointments :( Hardware is great. OS is great. Whole package is lacking something for me (note: for me - not for everyone else).

I still have not received my PB, instead it is waiting on a shelve of some retailer, waiting to be pickuped by a friend who will hopefully pick it up and send it to my home-country.
