Latest OS: 9930 7.1.0.457/7.1.0.163 (All Languages)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v7.1.0.457 (Multilanguage)
Will install to any carrier's 9930 by following these instructions.

File Name: 9930jAllLang_PBr7.1.0_rel457_PL5.1.0.137_A7.1.0.16 3_Sprint_L.P.exe
Download Size: 245.12MB
Language: Multilanguage

Download the OS file here: https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...EEF0649020CF99

Instructions for installing on the 9930:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Cool - anyone try this with a Verizon 9930? Does it add the mobile hotspot feature?

So what's the hype of this new version versus .540?

The feature is there, but it will not work unless your account is provisioned with the hotspot add-on.

I forgot they charge extra for that. Guess I'll stick with my 4G MiFi unit for the time being.

I just updated my Verizon 9930 with this. Waiting for enterprise activation to finish, but I poked around and the WiFi Hotspot option is there. I haven't tried it yet.

I'm hoping the tethering option already provisioned on my account will let the Hotspot option work, too.

This wasn't the case.... it appears to be a separate option you need to add to your account. Cost is $20/mo for 2GB.

I have installed the 7.1 Sprint release on a VZW 9930. I have the "4GB Data Bundle with Corporate Email & Mobile Hotspot" activated on the phone. I am able to create a hotspot and connect my Playbook to it.

So what's the hype of 7.1 versus 7.0? Is it worth upgrading? Somebody report in for us!

The "hype" is mobile hotspot. You want a report? Ok... It works. You want magical phrases with that report? Ok... The browser is snappier. Battery life is exponentially better. The update makes me feel younger and more vibrant.

I am running win7 and also had to delete the Vendor.xml file in:

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

I had trouble too. You can try some of the suggestions found here:

forums.crackberry.com/leaked-beta-os-f95/help-application-loader-642468/

(I can't post links yet)

I deleted the vendor.xml file in the AppData\Roaming directory in my earlier post and that did the trick for me.

Its nice to see the CDMA version get the official 7.1 update first!

Hotspot works nicely. Although there are some minor things that are annoying - when you try to activate the hotspot feature while the wifi antena is off you get an error message saying you have to first turn on wifi - it should just activate the wifi antenna when you turn on the wifi hotspot.

Its also weird that you cant change any hotspot settings unless the hotspot feature is turned on.
