What is Blackberry Messenger?

Hi everyone,

I am new to blackberry messenger. I just added a few contacts.... when u click Menu > Close... it still stays open.. i was just wondering if you can still receive messages when u click close (I don't think it really closes)...

like is the purpose of blackberry messenger to basically always stay on so u can receive messages?

if this is the case, is it like yahoo messenger where its constantly sending/receiving data = kills the battery etc? or is blackberry messenger different? thanks a lot.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

BB Messenger is a chat implementation of PIN messaging. It is always running. Like the browser, phone and message folder, it can't really be closed in the conventional sense.

It is always running, yes. However, unlike Yahoo Messenger, which must poll for IM updates, Blackberry Messenger is built on RIM's push-based message routing engine. So it has negligible impact on battery performance.

it should also only send/recieve when you actually update your status, recieve or send a message

Does it count as a text msg? I dont have unlimited msgs but I have unlimited internet use.

BlackBerry Messenger works off of data not text messaging.

I would disagree, I always get messages after i don't touch my blackberry for a long time, I think thats one of the benefits of blackberry messenger, the messages get pushed to you, i think so anyways

I dont understand what you are disagreeing with... I'm pretty sure he said the same thing... if you someone sends you a message its pushed to your device and then your device "recieves" it so you will be recieving data...
