Free software w/ turn by turn voice?

Is there any good software that is free AND has turn by turn voice directions? I'm just trying to compare the cost of a gps puck + software.

Thnx.

flash24 07-01-2007 09:40 AM

infospace

Thanks, I'll try them both once my puck arrives.

Do both of those work with pucks? I thought they only liked internal GPS....?

I believe InfoSpace only works with internal GPS. It will give you voice directions, but you have to advance yourself. Still, saves you from reading the next direction and navigating the device while driving!

Nav4All works with pucks. And no matter what anyone says about the clunky interface, it does get the job done relatively easily. And it is very well featured. However, I have been unable to solve one problem with it where it just drops the connection to my Holux 240 every once in a awhile. Very annoying.

does anybody know how to get nav4all to display both directions and map at same time??

does telenav or wayfinder have a free demo so I can compare?

They both do. Check their respective web sites.

How do you get the turn by turn voice to work on nav4all? I downloaded the english (female fun) file but nothing is said, and I dont see any options to enable or disable it.

If all else fails, give your BB to your wife and let her read Google Maps to you. Of course that is on a trial basis as well :)

I found the trial for wayfinder... but not telenav? Everything with telenav seems to require me to give a credit card just to check it out.

Also TN 5.1 seems to only work (based on the website) with the 8800 and 8100, I have the 8700. I feel uncomfortable paying for something that isn't supported.

I'd love to know how to do that as well. So far my experience with nav4all hasn't been that great. The directions don't give the names of the streets at all and there is no map just an arrow on the screen. I guess you get what you pay for.

jasto 07-11-2007 11:20 AM

to get map you hit 0 to switch back and forth between map and arrows... but there seams no way to display both at once...
as for street names, for some weird reason it doesnt always display the street name on top of the arrow, it always does with highway exits etc but streets seams more complex..
Its definitely not a very polished app but functionality wise its way ahead of the game (i.e. GMM) for free nav apps...
theres a new version of nav4all out , version 7.4.2 , has anybody been able to dwnload it on 8300 ?

fsa3 07-13-2007 10:12 AM

I ended up downloading mapquest navigator and am very happy (at least as long as its free).

Nav4all didn't impress me and the interface was just horrible.
