Message to me from John Clark
 

Not too long ago, the moderator of this forum, John Clark (I am sure you know him well), somehow re-wrote on the owner screen on my new company issued (BES) 8310. I am sure he is trying to help me. He wrote (something to the effect of) "you have no it policy". I suppose this is why he was able to manipulate my blackberry. What can I do to prevent prying eyes on my stuff in the (near) future.

I am open to questions if I am not making myself clear.

Willing to listen to any and all suggestions (especially from John himself).

You or someone removed the IT Policy on your device and replaced it with a blank IT policy. Your owner screen, in the process, is re-written by a message from our good friend John Clark for the purpose of letting you know that you had put this blank IT Policy on your device (and to let you know it worked!). John Clark wrote the blank IT policy from which you are benefiting now, perhaps you should thank him for helping you?

I know.... it's spyware!!! :razz:

I am able to put (so far) every app I need, so I am happy with the performance of it.
It was issued to me from my employer, and his name showed up maybe an hour ago or so.
I am up on the enterprise server, outlook interface is good, plus personal use. No real super secret stuff here, but I go the feeling that the handheld's security, or worse, possibly my employer's info was comprimised.

Furthermore, I took it out of the box two days ago, no one else has handled it, and I did not personally install a blank IT policy. IT policy name is "Default"...

Are you on a corporate BES account?

Did the new policy (i.e. John Clark's owner screen) just show up an hour ago?

Yes to BES, and yes, about an hour ago, I already rewrote over it, just curious if I am somehow at risk, or somehow have put my company at risk

I am guessing either you or your company installed the blank IT Policy to the device. I would think you would recall if you did so. So, perhaps your employer is using John's blank IT Policy (haha) to push to your corporate devices.

Trust me, JC could care less about the info on your device and there has been NO security breech. His only concern is in being helpful to end-users like yourself when needed.

Still confused as to whether a blank IT policy is a good thing, or a bad thing. Again, I don't have launch codes on my blackberry, but I don't want someone to be able to operate it or view it remotely, like John Clark seemed to be doing (again, to help me I am sure). I'm not an IT expert, so tell me if I am over-reacting...

Also, in the future, since it's a device from your employer, I wouldn't advise toying with the IT policy at all.
