Bold 9900 failing to register on carrier network

Hello pipo. I purchased this
new bb device 9900 from
China. I am from Zambia and my carrier is Airtel Zambia. I am having. A problem in having the device register on my carrier's network. They say that they can not activate BIS because the device can not be recognized on their network and yet the device is not even branded. I get no response even when I try to register the host routing table.
The device is also asking for Enterprise activation.
My overseas seller seems to be
unresponsive to questions about
unlocking this device.

Appreciate if somebody could assist
me with any solutions I could consider.

Re: Bold 9900 failing to register on carrier network

Ok , so for all who are purchasing a blackberry phone from China, Don't !!!

The reason most do not work is they are not real or if they are they are carrier locked and wont work on another carrier.

As you all can see buy this link,, many people are doing the same thing and finding the same problem.

If the carrier was locked,I presume even making phone calls or sending text's was not going to be possible aswel is that not so if so,but iam able to make and receive calls send texts

Re: Bold 9900 failing to register on carrier network

Ok , the common link is this vendor 179. MTN does offer blackberry BIS plans and various data packages. I don't know who or what a vendor 179 is but if MTN has agreements with a provider to pick up their cell calls and that 179 provider does not have a BIS or blackberry service then it all stops. The phone if locked will not work on another carrier for most services.
MTN site for your area it seems clear they offer service and you can try calling MTN directly. Give them the IMEI number and they should be able to validate it.
Check to see if the spelling of the work Blackberry is in upper case not lower case.
Look at the serial numbers and PIN numbers. The pin is usually 8 digits/letters the IMEI is usually 15 digits

I've call them they said my bis is okay, i'm even able to log on to their website mtnnigeria.blackberry.com.
but I don't know why my bis is not working. one thing I forget to add is that the bis go for 2-3 days and then stopped

Re: Bold 9900 failing to register on carrier network

do you have your phone set for roaming? you may be going off your carriers network and that causes the issue.

Are you using this site for the BIS access and email setup?

BlackBerry Internet Service

This is the site listed on their web site
