Nextel, is not making anymore BB's. They are in fact pushing customers into Sprint (Non- Gov't accounts). The 8700 is just another myth.
|
This sucks if theres no more BB's coming with DC. I was hoping for maybe something like the Pearl (8100) with video capabilities or something.

yo
hey i have a friend at kelly services(customer support for BB) the scheduled date for release for the 8700 series is December this year... holla at ya boi
|
as of the moment, they have decieded that they are no longer releasing anymore blackberry's for iDEN, only CDMA blackberry's from now. I think is stupid. Hopefully they change their mind in the future cause this will upset alot of business/corporate customers.

Don't believe everything CSR tells you unless you have a reliable source at the top ranks. When I placed an order for a 7510 I specifically asked CSR that I would not purchase the phone if the new version will be out soon. CSR advised me that there will NOT be another updated model for at least another year. Approximately three months after my purchase, the 7520 was rolled out. I spent the equivalent of three full days on the phone with CSR complaining how I felt wronged when they asked me to cough up an additional $350 just for the upgrade. Anyway, my persistence paid off when I requested a 'tape pull' to verify that the CSR specifically fed me the wrong info.
Bottom line, with the number of Nextel blackberry units sold and with Nextel announcing that they will continue support of iDen for another 10 years (they sent me a letter on this after the Sprint merge), I don't see how it is possible for them not to have at least a single replacement unit for the 75xx series type BB's until iDen is phased out. |
There is not another iDEN BB product on the roadmap for a while. The focus is on the new CDMA and CDMA/GSM BB handsets.

Makes sense to me. I just wish one of the other carriers (particularly with EVDO) would introduce some variant on the PTT functionality. It's such a useful service and yet, we get to sit idly by and watch while other carriers pick-up all the new sleak devices (a DC capable Pearl would be perfect, but it will never see the light of day).

This is a poor move by Sprint. Nextel had the BEST BlackBerry 75xx as it had GPS, speakerphone, DC, and excellent services. Now that the merger is "complete," everything is going downhill. This wait for a Nextel/Sprint 870x is totally unacceptable! I work for a very large corporation and our reps are pushing to change carriers for this very reason. They need to come out with something ASAP!

Does anyone knows anything about the Sprint 8702? At leas Verizon got hope... Sprint please release this device soon.
|
8702? do they have a 7102? where did you get that from?
|
Just got off with Blackberry customer support for nextel and she said she "had heard" it was going to come out this summer. At least they didnt completely deny it.

Merged.

if theres a bb coming out it will be this year. if not this year then never
|
It will be the 8703 - CDMA.
There will be a CDMA/GSM - for international use - out in the spring. Haven't heard anything about any new iDEN units. When EVDO Rev A is released there is talk about Q Chat being released on the CDMA network. Sprint has demonstrated the product and it is as robust and quick as current iDEN Direct Connect. |
