T-Mobile OS update

Has any T-mobile users of Blackberry Curve tried installing and using the latest BB OS 4.5.0.75?? If so what do you think of it? Does it add new features?

Yes, many many users have done so. Check the threads in the 83xx section...

Thanks for responding. Next question would be since TMobile has not yet release the new OS, does upgrading to new OS invalidate the warranty?
How long did it take you to install new OS?

Ernie

spade 07-19-2008 09:21 PM

usually take a half hour 45 min.......

i dont think it it ruins the warranty....

dude33333 07-19-2008 09:27 PM

Its a great upgrade and it does not invalidate the warranty. Worst case if you need to return your phone, just downgrade before you send it back. Otherwise, get to updating the OS 8-)

oook... i upgraded to the lates 4.5 my question is what is the new icons that come up... you got documents to go and certificate search
what is the latter?!?!

Chitown021 07-20-2008 09:27 AM

I just got the Curve from T-Mobile. I upgraded to 4.5 with no problems.It seems to work great except for one time when it froze up on me when I was trying to reply to a text message.

Ok I am royally confused. I have a Tmo 8320. I was reading a lot of discussion about SIM cards getting fried, but now there are none. Did they fix this?? Is this file below... the one that will work for my Tmo 8320?

* Applications: 4.5.0.52
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.66
* File name: 8320M_PBr4.5.0_rel75_PL2.7.0.66_A4.5.0.52_Orange.e xe
* File size: 75.87MB

Can we make a sticky specifically for TMO 8320 users?

Am I still at risk if I download the above file?

Thanks!:?

sgtcasey 07-20-2008 10:54 AM

No sticky needed for just T-Mobile users. Check the 8320 sticky at the top of the forum. It seems that the SIM problems were resolved with this latest version. I'm using it and it's had an issue or two (phone rebooting and other minor annoyances) but after I wiped by device using JL_Cmder and reinstalled it I haven't had any issues at all.

But keep in mind that this is not an official T-Mobile release so if you load it on your phone and then need T-Mobile technical support one of the first things they may tell you upon finding out you have it loaded is to go back to the T-Mobile version. :)

Yeah, sim issues haven't been a problem in any version after .37. I can't think of a reason not to upgrade to .52. If I were going to bet, I'd say that TMo/ATT will release either .52 or .55. The only major issue in .52 is on the 8100 and the camera. Pretty much every thing else is good.

4.5 is here!

sgtcasey 07-20-2008 11:00 AM

I agree with John. It's working fine so far for me (since the reinstall) and I like it a lot. :)

Works a damn site better than T-Mobile's own firmware.

Update, you've got nothing to lose !

nwa122 07-20-2008 11:11 AM

I appreciate all of your replies. I am in the middle of downloading the update. Blackberry has the slowest site! Anyway this seems like it will be a long process so I will definitely be back if I have any issues. I will try using JL_Cmder as previously mentioned and do a wipe if my first install goes bad. Thanks for the advice!

John Clark 07-20-2008 11:16 AM

TMobile's isn't really "TMobile's." All firmwares are written/developed by RIM and each carrier tests them and decides when to release them and which version. I have tested almost every version of the 4.5 OS that's been out there and this version is definitely the best out there so far.

Hi- I posted the following in another 4.5 thread, but thought I would impose and repost here as well as it is applicable and maybe someone can answer!! Thanks for your help in advance...

John, I followed your instructions, and did the upgrade on my TMo 8320. Everything seems to be fine after some adjustments (most learned form the fine folks in this forum!) but like many find Google Maps hanging up on the install. After much reading, I saw you posted Google Maps 1.6.4 would work well, but after a fair amount of searching on the web can't find anything but the latest version. Any suggestions as to where I could locate 1.6.4 for download?

Thanks very much!!

I love the new OS! It's awesome. The ONLY issue I have is that the ringtone volume has decreased significantly. I can live with it for this OS, though. Has anyone found a fix for the volume problem?

thecelt1974 07-20-2008 04:15 PM

I have had this on my TMO Curve for a few days. It's great, no real problems.

The only "issues" (if you can really call them that) I have noticed, is that:

When I am on a call, my home screen defaults back to the standard blue screen, but when I hang up, it goes back to the custom home screen I have selected.

After you complete the upgrade, you end up with 2 tzones Icons. I just ended up hiding one of them.

Otherwise, it is great.
