ATT wifi/ 3g/ 2g question
I recently updated my bold os to 4.6.0.282. I realized that you can switch from 3g and 2g. I have wifi enabled when I am in my house. If I switch to 2g with wifi enabled, would that change my browsing speed. Would the browsing speed be faster with 3g and wifi enabled or does not make a difference if I turn off 3g with wifi enabled. Cause whenever I leave my house I could just re-enable 3g. I want to do this to save some battery life. Thanks in advance.

No, if WiFi is present, it is preferred as the route, and it doesn't matter then whether you are on 2G or 3G.

your phone will only ever be as fast as your best connection (not dependent on the others that are enabled). so, if wifi is the fastest, whether or not your mobile connection (either 2g or 3g) is enabled is meaningless. best all around battery life would be just the 2g connection. best speeds would be 3g and wifi on all the time. middle of the road, would, then probably be 2g and wifi. im playing with 2g vs 3g to assess battery. i find that 3g is fast enough to exclude wireless when i have good 3g connection. when i cant get a good 3g connection and i know wifi is available, then i use wifi. and, ive gone 2-3 days on 3g with what i consider to be regular use for my needs. so we'll see what just 2g does for me. oh, i never use bluetooth either. imagine 3g, wifi, bluetooth and an old OS... jeez.... prob just a few hours of life then. |
I know that my wifi is faster cause it is always under -70 dbm while my 3g connection at best is at -70 dbm. So then wifi would be faster regardless if 2g or 3g is enabled?

yes.
wi-fi is wi-fi. it works off your routers speed and has nothing to do with 3G/2G. you can turn off the mobile network and still have exact same speed through wi-fi because its wi-fi. |
