Gps

I have an 8310. Will Google maps work with the GPS, and is it the best program to use. I don't really want to pay for TeleNav since I don't drive new places too frequently. Also, do I need any additional hardware to use the GPS.
Thank you all so much. This forum has been so very helpful.

I'm pretty new to the BB but yes Google maps does work with the GPS at least on my 8130. I've seen something that VZW doesn't allow access to the GPS data unless you pay them extra.

Google maps does work well and I do use it with my 8310 ...... if you are looking for free announced turn-by-turn directions try Nav4All - it also works well and is a nice complement to Google Maps .......

Nav4All - Free gps navigation for your mobile phone!

"Best" is subjective. You mentioned that you don't want to pay for a GPS app but what do you intend to do with it? Google Maps is an excellent free GPS-enabled app but I wouldn't consider it suitable for in-car navigation unless you have a copilot as it doesn't have voice prompts.

No additional hardware is needed.

Have you checked out the GPS forum? Tons of info is already there. GPS isn't unique to the 83xx series.

Try out several apps and see for yourself. Most are either free or have free trials.
