Status of official skype on blackberry?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone of the experts here has heard anything about the official skype client for the bberry?

did anyone see how the closed beta of May worked out?

I'm only interested in text chat, but I don't want to go through 3rd party apps, not sure if their encryption implementation is as strong/solid as skype own

..maybe I should just use iskoot or im+.

Well, I'm not an expert, but there isn't even a beta floating around. I'm not holding my breath waiting for a pure, free Skype client.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

I thought there was a private beta. Nonetheless, my sense is that it will be part of the 5.0+ OS grp.

Haven't heard much. SKYPE has legal issues to deal with as well, patent infringement I think?

In any case, I can't see it being anything that great since from what I heard, it still uses your minutes.

If you're just using text chat use iskoot. There are no skype apps that uses data for voice calls, but that won't matter with skype texting.

A Skype app is a long, long way off. That's if it ever happens, which I highly doubt.

thanks for the feedback everyone. will try iskoot. only need chat for now...

We are in October 2009: Is there a skype for Blackberry, yet??
Shouldn't there be pressure from us bberries to release one sooon?

MidnightDraven 10-27-2009 07:07 AM

Nope there isnt.
And if you had read, theres currently a legal battle with skype.
Its not likely we'll get skype anytime soon.

Legal battle is over now. Skype said in march that Skype for Blackberry will be released in may but we are still to see it. I suspect it aint gonna happen now and Skype havent been man enough (or women enough) to admit they ****ed up.

What's up with this? Can't these jerkoffs even update their website in 6 months to reflect reality?

NJBlackBerry 11-16-2009 12:23 PM

Sigh.

Thank you for this informative reply. (n)

NJBlackBerry 11-16-2009 12:27 PM

OK, there is still no sign of a beta.
Is that more informative? Or perhaps you want to call other people names?

Wow.

brh986 11-16-2009 12:29 PM

Why exactly do you take offense at me pointing out what a bunch of jerkoffs they are at skype for announcing software 6 months ago that never came and never even updating the page let alone providing some kind of explanation?

NJBlackBerry 11-16-2009 12:58 PM

Because I like to keeps things civil... Not always possible...
