Can I sync with an archive Lotus Notes mail file?

I have a BlackBerry Bold 9650 that I use with BIS. I use Google sync for Calendar and Contacts with Thunderbird but don’t have a desktop PIM for the memos or todos. I can not install Outlook on my company computer which uses Lotus Notes v7 with BES.

In trying to keep everything in one place, I would like to use Lotus Notes as my PIM for the Calendar, ToDos, Contacts and Memo, but do not want to connect my personal BB to the company BES nor do I want to have my Calendar and ToDos show up on the server copy of my mail file.

I can sync the address book and memos (journal) to my Lotus Notes locally and they work very well. However, when I sync the calendar and todos with my replica mail file, they also get replicated back to the server.

Is it possible to have the BlackBerry desktop software replicate with an archive copy of my mail file? This would allow me to work with a Desktop PIM for the Calendar and ToDos and still keep them off of the server.

Thanks

someone may have a method but I cannot find one at the RIM support site.
I agree with you not wanting to have your own BB info on your company BES. I was forced to have two because of the same issue. Both are kept seperate.

I've not used Lotus Notes with my BB for a while, but from memory Desktop Manager uses the location document to work out where your mailfile is.

To sync with an archive or seperate mailfile from your server copy, you would need to setup a new location document pointing to the archive file and then swap to the location document each time you want to sync your blackberry.

That sounds about right, but how do I point to the archive file for only Desktop Manager and not mess up the live replica? I suppose I could maybe create a dummy notes.ini file and point it to an archive and then get the desktop manager to link to that ini file. Not sure what the consequences of doing that would be (also since it's bordering at around my capabilities).

It would be better if there were something something dedicated like Palm Desktop or even the old Lotus Organizer that I could use as a desktop PIM rather than this workaround. But I understand that it's no longer supported.

If anyone has any specifics on how to do this workaround, please feel free to jump in...

Re: Can I sync with an archive Lotus Notes mail file?

Well I tried creating a dummy note.ini file and then modifying it to point to an archive mail file hoping that Desktop Manager would be able to sync to the archive file so that I can keep my schedules and task list off of the server copy of my mail file. But unfortunately I don't know enough about programming the notes.ini file to make it work. I kept getting notes Kernel code errors (ie 525, 4238 and 6402 are some codes I was getting after trying different settings. )
I thought that just modifying the line containing the directory and mail file location would have worked, but apparently there is more to it than just that.

There is no need to create a dummy notes.ini file - just create a new location document and point it to your archive folder, then when syncing switch from your normal location document to the archive location document.

Thanks for details. I didn't quite understand what you had written on your first post. But it's working very well after creating a now location and have it point to the archive file. It's a little awkward to always change location just to sync, but it is working.

Thanks again.
