metro pcs

has any one been able to use a sprint or verizon BB on metro pcs?

kjjb0204 05-12-2008 10:03 PM

I don't think CDMA phones can be unlocked to use on other carriers' networks. Supposed to be in the works at Sprint and Verizon.

i called metro PCS and they said if i bring in a cdma BB they will reprogram it to work on their network but the rep did not know if they offered the BB plan so i could use the bb functions

i was wondering if any one here knew

If their own rep doesn't know if they have a bb plan, then they probably don't. Also keep in mind that Metro PCS doesn't have roaming agreements with anyone, so if you're outside of their extremely limited service area, you'll have no service at all.

azmmza.. were you able to get your BB unlocked & flashed over for use on the metro PCS network?? if so were there any limitations to the BB functions??

Yes You Can

You can have any CDMA phone flashed to Metro PCS.
I have my Sprint Blackberry Pearl 8130 working with Metro.
Metro will have a new blackberry Curve coming out sometime this month, "supposedly" and a $10 plan for internet plan extra.
I hope this is true and i can add it for $10 extra.
But the myth of not been able to have a blackberry on metro is a complete lie, metro will not do it at the moment because if you decide to do an OS Update it will reset the phone and it will kill the flashing, so you will have to return to the store to get it done again and so on.
I wanted to flash a blackberry Storm but is too expensive with out a contract and i went to Verizon in person to test the phone and is way too slow, i hope updates will fix that problem.

according to a person that owns a Metro PCS store they are able to flash a BB but he could nor guarantee that all functions would be functional, although is very strange since they offer the curve 8330 @ 449.99. I think this is just a scam to force costumers to pay for the phone.
On the other hand the Metro BB dos have push e-mail web capabilities, Metro network does not support download over the the network so all apps have to be installed via desktop manager.
That is all that I could gather from talking with the a store owner, and a costumer service rep.

YouTube - How to flash Verizon 8830 or 9530 Storm to Cricket or Metro PCS
yhis is a video on how to unlock a BB from verizon, do not know if it works

I am trying to get a BB or a Samsung Blackjack flashed for metro pcs. The reps keep telling that if I get either flashed through them that they will lose all email functions. Is this true??

You will not be able to flash a BlackJack to MetroPCS as it is a GSM device. Also, you will only be able to make CDMA BlackBerry devices like the 7130e, 7250, 8830, 8330, 8130, 8230, or 9530 work on MetroPCS. Since MetroPCS now offers BlackBerry, you can sign up for a BlackBerry data plan through them and all BlackBerry services such as e-mail will work.

Sign up for a BlackBerry data plan from MetroPCS.

I guess we can plan on being inundated with these types of question from the Metro PCS people.

I think so...

MPCS and Cricket are the only CDMA providers that will activate other providers handsets, and MPCS is the only one of those two that offers BB service.

I still doubt it. MMS and WAP Browser require service books, which you will only get with a BlackBerry plan.

Dawg 05-08-2009 04:40 PM

I doubt it as well

MetroPCS says NO to my 7250

Bought it thru Craigslist. Already flashed to MetroPCS (I can dial 611 and reach MetroPCS Customer Service). I was told it was "flashed again" to enable all Internet functionality. MetroPCS tells me they can't add my existing MetroPCS phone number to the Blackberry because it's "not in their inventory." Do I have any options for using this phone with MetroPCS or have I been suckered with this purchase?
