IP-Relay.com [BlackBerry Software for deaf callers, text-to-voice relay services]

For some of us that use the relay and have used www.ip-relay.com - no more need to download and pay 3rd party software to connect thru this. They have downloads now avail on their website for OS 4.0 FREE

I use that site here and there but just noticed it today when I had to call and ***** about some late pizza :) which it became free also 8-)

Enjoy!

Awesome! Just as a side note, the instructions on their site does not say anything about using it with Verizon, Sprint, or Cingular. For Verizon users, it doesn't need any setup. I installed it and it worked. (I'm not hard of hearing but even so, IP Relay can be very useful nonetheless). I don't know if it works the same way with Sprint. There are instructions too for Cingular so I'm assuming those might also work for Cingular.

I'm with Verizon also (7250) - I had no problem with it installing and running the 1st time.

interesting software... will have to play with it more when I have time.

I'm going to focus on using this vs. minutes for calls this week to see if I can find some value in it.

Yikes, you guys know this service is for Deaf people right? If you tie it up when you don't need it the service will become usesless.

IP-RELAY.com was the first service to offer deaf and hard of hearing persons the ability to place calls over the Internet. (cut and paste from the website) or read more at http://www.ip-relay.com/faq.htm

just FYI :)

Just want to let you all know, Idokorro Mobile (maker of MobileSSH and Mobile Admin) developed this software for MCI - and hosts the download for the clients.

Those of you who know I am hearing impaired, can check my website at www.marky.com/hearing. I have developed a separate Canadian version of relay software at www.MiniTTY.com which works with Bell Canada Relay service, but nobody has commercialized this as of yet.

Does it ever work for anyone with MDS enabled blackberry devices with BES? I couldnt get IP Relay program connected for some reasons, but however if I use Idokorro SSH, it does work like champ. Am I missing out something here?
Thanks.

To the rescue:
http://ip-relay.idokorro.com/IPRelayBES.jad

We made a separate BES version. This has not been linked by MCI, but try this out.

This one works like a charm! Many thanks to you, Mark. :)

Works great w/ T-Mobile 7230. Finally a quick relay service connection client for BB! I assume the connection is via telnet, not http, is this correct? Great job!!

Few suggestion for future enhancements...
1) If there's java exception error, might want to replace the error message to a user friendly message such as "try again later".
2) Add additional menu options such as sending a macro text message to save time to enter repetitive message like relay instruction, etc.
3) Use enter key to send "GA" as an optional.

Will idokorro developers monitor this forum for improvements?

I was at the DeafNation Expo last Saturday and the guy who represented IP-Relay couldn't tell me if it would work on a 6230 running OS 4.0. Does anyone know?

Yes, I'm looking to upgrade soon to a 7290, but until then...??

lraed74 09-28-2005 08:03 AM

If your running 4.0, give it a try and load it.

dofficer 09-28-2005 08:04 AM

It should work w/ 6230. Just follow the instruction for 7230 T-Mobile for IP-Relay BB install via OTA. Go ahead and give it a try.

dkf747 09-28-2005 05:27 PM

It seems to work but I haven't tried calling yet. Need to find someone to call.

KonTiki 09-28-2005 05:53 PM

I am concerned if this technology is indeed primarily for deaf and hearing impared people, are we not then doing them a diservice by utilizing it ourselves. Mark your thoughts on this issue please.

lraed74 09-28-2005 09:15 PM

Being Deaf myself, I think its a good way to reach others and let them know this service is out there. I dont see many (hearing) wanting to use this cuz its slow and sucks in my opinion. BUT you have to work w/what you got!

lraed74 09-28-2005 09:24 PM

ok, let me rephrase. I'm late deafned so I can definately say the relay sucks in comparison. Its slow and a normal conversation takes much longer, hence why I doubt anyone that could use the phone normally would find interest. My 2 cents :)
