Unable to navigate through video

This is an odd problem and was wondering if any others have experienced it or something similar.

I use AVS Video converter to take MPG files created by my BeyondTV DVR software and convert it to 480x320 AVI files.

I then transfer the file to my media card using Windows Explorer when the Bold is hooked up via USB (mass storage mode). In other words, I don't use the media management software that comes with the Bold from AT&T.

The videos are nice. They play as expected with good sound quality and image clarity. Quite impressive actually.

However, whenever I attempt to shuttle forward or backward in videos converted this way, the sound will stutter, the video goes blank and then a second later, the sound will resume but only from the spot that I attempted to shuttle forward and the video remains blank. The video never recovers.

What I mean by "shuttling" is using the trackball to bring focus to the "timeline" bar, click on the trackball to enable it, use the trackball to go forward or backward along the timeline, then click it again at the spot I want to start viewing again.

The other frustrating thing is, I have to restart the video to get everything back to normal.

So, I am unable to move forward or backward in these videos, which for an hour long video file, it's rather frustrating and renders the experience of watching videos rather pointless. There doesn't seem to be a way to go back from where I left off. Or I can't move forward through commercials.

It may have to do with how AVS creates their videos because CloneDVD mobile creates AVI files that allows me to shuttle backward and forward if I want.

Anyone have any suggestions?

version of OS I have is .185.
