T-Mobile Wireless Upgrade to 4.6.1.231

I just successfully upgraded my 8900 wirelessly to 4.6.1.231. There has not been any announcement as far as I know so I was surprised when I clicked upgrade and it actually worked.

Has anyone else had success with this? After trying to duplicate the upgrade with some friends, they had to click wireless update and it would say none available. Go back out and try again. After 4 or 5 times it found the update. Strange. It took about an hour to back up the device and another hour to load the OS. I believe the update was only 9MB when it downloaded.

what OS were you previously running? .114 from t-mobile?

If you were using another carriers OS, then you would be updating from them.

I just tried it and nothing available.

No updates available for me. T-Mobile, running .114 in Seattle.

No updates for me, though to be fair I am using a Rogers 8900 on T-Mobile US. I am still at 4.6.1.94 so it would be nice to upgrade, though I've been waiting for the wireless upgrade to kick in.

I'm assuming that the wireless upgrade grabs the update from the service provider of the OS that is installed? I wonder if there is a way to change what service provider it downloads from. I went into my 8900's engineering screens, but could not find any reference to Wireless Upgrade. I was hoping I could manually edit the address as to download from T-Mo instead of Rogers, again assuming it does grab from the service provider based on the installed OS.

IMHO, the best and still reliable source for the latest Blackberry OS is BB Forums (and some good ol' download-delete xml-run-install fashion).

Thanks BB Forums for 4.6.1.250!

.250 is out - its working great for me so I would download that...

wireless upgrade pulls from your carrier, not the carrier of the OS, as the wireless upgrade option isnt there if you use an Os that isnt you carriers.

coastieboy00 06-20-2009 04:35 PM

Not getting it in Orlando. Anyone else getting the update message?

Not true. The Wireless Upgrade option is there no matter what carrier's OS you have installed.

Hit the wireless upgrade option several times and still nothing. Oh well.

Interesting, this was said in another thread about wireless upgrade.
Those that had an OS from a different carrier didnt have it.
Strange. Wonder If I can find that thread....

I think you're a little confused.
The Wireless Upgrade option will still be on the device. It just won't do anything in this case.
You can only use it to upgrade from your approved carrier branded OS to another approved carrier branded OS.

Ahh perhaps I did mis read.
But I was correct that it won't work for an OS that isn't your carriers.
Thanks for that clarification.

Ok so if I'm reading this right, if I have a Rogers 8900 and am on T-Mobile US there is no way to use wireless upgrade?

John Clark 06-21-2009 07:46 PM

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

No, that's not correct.

No.
You need to be running an approved T-Mo released OS and then you can do a Wireless Upgrade to a newer approved T-Mo released OS. (when one is available.)

But the "Wireless Upgrade" option is listed in the options no matter what OS you have. I've had the option for quite some time.

All this being said, you will do well to just keep up to date by checking the stickies we have here and using loader.exe.

Did you notice any upgrade in features or just release number?
