OS: 8900 5.0.0.1004/5.0.0.592 (Multilanguage)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1004 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1004
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.592
* Software Platform: 5.2.0.58
* File name: 8900M_PBr5.0.0_rel1004_PL5.2.0.58_A5.0.0.592_Wind_ Hellas.exe
* File size: 129MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...2B6049B8D9A202

Instructions to install on ANY 8900 from ANY CARRIER.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

This has been out for a little while now:

1) better battery life
2) more free memory

the lock button still ONLY does a keypad lock :(

John Clark 04-08-2010 06:30 PM

It has been out unofficially.

This is an official carrier release.

Thread stickied!

(oh, and the lock button will likely only do a keypad lock for quite some time, since RIM has done this on purpose.)

Why do you say this?

John Clark 04-09-2010 03:25 PM

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Because the new keypad lock features are not a bug. Everyone is waiting for lock to be "fixed". I'm saying don't hold your breath.

It seems as if the link is down, does anyone have an alternate link?

EDIT: Sorry, it is on the site. It just isn't the first on the list.

somerandomguy 04-09-2010 04:29 PM

nope, link above is working just fine for me...

I cant seem to get this on my phone.

when I run the apploader it gives me this error

the blackberry desktop desktop software does not have
blackberry device software for the device that
you have connected to the computer. Contact
your wirelesss service provider or system administrator

and when I try doing it with desktop manager it shows me a * at the end of the 5.0 in the list of available upgrades and the bottom of the screen there is this.

* Only active blackberry service subscribers are entitled to install this blackberry device software upgrade

its pissing me off, I'm trying to this on a computer with windows 7 and I do have a data plan on my phone

I am sure that this issue may be specific to me and my 8900, but this new OS is making the handset reset (over and over). I have never experienced an OS this buggy and am going back to an older version.

So, just a word of caution on that.

John Clark 04-11-2010 04:14 PM

It does sound specific to you. It's likely caused by a third party app or theme you have on the device. Can you list them out?

Having used this OS on my wife's 8900 my personal opinion of this OS is that it's the best 8900 OS to date. Many of the bugs have been fixed in this version.

Did you follow the instructions for removal of all vendor.xml files for Windows 7 and Vista?

Kamau 04-11-2010 06:48 PM

I have Windows 7. When I click on compatible files, I get a file called "pool.bin". Is this the right file to delete? The only other file in the apploader file is called just "vendor" with no ".xml" at the end.

John Clark 04-11-2010 06:52 PM

The extension is just hidden. That's a Windows setting. Delete the vendor file.

Has anyone had trouble with Bluetooth Audio and this update? The bluetooth link to my car stereo seems to be buggy now.

kingston73 04-12-2010 06:44 PM

This is working well for me, maybe just me but I feel like my battery lasts longer than .411

missing apps

I did this update on Sunday via BlackBerry's official site, but I've noticed a few simple apps are missing. I no longer have Documents to go (word to go, sheets to go, slideshow to go), Memo app, and Tasks app. Here's what I've done to solve the issue, but I haven't had nay success: Plugged in--DM--App loader...the only apps that showed up are the 3rd party apps that are currently on my BB. Does anyone know where I can find the above apps to load them onto my BB?

Not sure if this is in the right forum...

Thanks

Just follow the instructions in the first post of this thread to download and install the OS. Then when you go through Loader.exe the apps will be there.

fixed

I used the Loader.exe and found the Memo app, Tasks app, and Docs to go. Thanks for your help.
