No internet on Vzw Bold 9650 with non-BB UK SIM?
 

Hi,

I've a US Verizon Blackberry Bold 9650 (unlocked) and I put in a UK SIM card with data enabled (no Blackberry service) and I still have my Verizon contract (I'm just travelling for a week in the UK).

I've put the APN settings into the phone for the UK SIM, but can't access data services (Opera Mini, Gmail, Pandora). I wouldn't expect the Blackberry mail / web browser to work as there's no BIS provisioning on the UK SIM - but I would have expected the raw data to work.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! (Using Tesco mobile... could try picking up an O2 SIM with BB services...)

You need a SIM that has a specific BlackBerry data plan. Very few pre-paid plans offer this. Orange does.

Thanks for the responses... I had a chat with a Tesco mobile tech and he confirmed that I *should* be able to use the phone with a SIM that has regular data only (i.e. that uses the carrier's APN).

He advised I wouldn't have access to Blackberry services (native browser, BBM, etc.) but that I could use third party apps that make a direct connection. However... as this has failed so far, I guess it's time to go hunting for BB SIM! (Even then, I'm not sure how well that'll work as the phone is presently activated on my US Verizon BB account)!

You've entered the correct APN for the network?
I believe they have 2 depending on the SIM type [payg vs contract]

If your BlackBerry is still registered to your Verizon BIS account you won't be able to register it with another carrier for BIS until you get if off Verizon's BIS. As long as you don't care about BlackBerry services the right settings should allow browsing via Opera Mini.

Hi,

I have just bought blackberry 9650 verizon & i cannot access internet & bb services.

I can make calls & also recive sms but unable to connect to internet & no bb service.
I have on the right upper side of my phone written edge in small letters & my service provider vodafone is saying we should have edge in capital letters only then i can access internet.

please help me what needs to be done.
i am residing in India & noone has any clue about how to start internet on my handset.
can you please help me if you have knowledge about this, i will really appreciate that.
