Web browser question

I'm a new user without a blackberry, only considering it at the moment. (Looking at the 8700g).

I've done the requisite search, but haven't found the answer to this question (it's probably out there and the proper keywords to use weren't obvious to me):

Can you view a web page on the blackberry in the same format as you do on a PC? By that, I mean, I realize the blackberry reformats a web page to fit its screen dimensions, that much is clear from the info I've seen. But, is there a setting, as there is on a PocketPC, that allows you to view the page in full desktop style mode, where you have to scroll around to see the entire page?

The reason I ask is that we have a customer service system at work that just isn't usable when reformatted, and I have to have access to that system 24/7. I can do it on the PocketPC, but pocket IE is slow, Thunderhawk is awesome but doesn't handle our customer service system very well, and Opera is okay, but I'm tempted to try the blackberry to see if it's any easier to use.

I appreciate the help! I do also note that there is an Opera Mobile edition for blackberry being discussed here, if the built in browser doesn't accommodate my needs, will that?

Is there no one interested in answering a simple question for a person considering joining the Blackberry community?

Hi WTL. While Blackberrys now have pretty good support for the standard web scripting (html, css, javascript, etc), I don't believe you can scroll both horizontally and vertically over a 'full' resolution rendered page.

just did a quick test to confirm: as far as i can see you cannot do this.

wtl,

With the Blackberry, your browser experience is pretty close to what one would see on a desktop. I own an 8700c and can browse most web pages easily. The only ones that seem to present a problem are framed web pages. With these, you are presented with the option of viewing one frame or the other, but neither way provides full compatibility.

If you would provide the url of a site in which you're curious about the rendering, perhaps we can visit the web page and tell you how it appears.
