Unoffical WES 2005 - RIM's Wireless Enterprise Symposium thread

Hey guys and gals, I understand that WES started today, but I am one of those unfortuanted people who cant attend for WES this week. Can anyone who attends there post whats the new stuff going on down at WES since most of us are not able to go. Post pictures would be great as well.
Thanks!

this would be awesome.

Nice hotel and excellent logistics. I don't think the crowd is where they expected it to be.

The Vendor Display area is superb. Twice as big as last year. Some new Bluetooth stuff (Thinprint BT printing comes to mind) and applications development tools are all around. Webmessenger has new products. And, of course, Magmic has a new release of Texas Hold 'Em 2. None of the carriers are "officially" showing any new devices, but if you are important enough they'll sneak you some inside information.

As usual, BlackBerry Connect is a non-starter. PalmSource is here and they have zero information. Useless. Motorola didn't even show up the first night. What a waste. Sprint is making their first appearance. 7250 is "coming soon". Whatever that means.

I've been a bit disappointed in the breakout sessions. Elementary stuff. An advanced class on handheld support ended up with people asking really simple questions. Global Support was just plain weak and I ended up correcting a few things the speaker said. Lots of first time attendees here.

About to start a session on Upgrading devices to 4.0.

Haven't seen or heard from Guess today. Maybe he spent too much time at the House of Blues last night - it was a superb party.

No discussions on themes or ringtones! I am shocked. Shocked :)

what? nothing on Blackberry connect? :(

NJBlackBerry 04-20-2005 10:00 AM

Same as the last two years.

Nokia: nothing to show
PalmSource: You have to ask PalmOne
PalmOne: Not present
Motorola: Big booth. I think I saw someone there yesterday, but didn;t go over

PalmSource did have a demo of what their software might look like, but they don;t make devices, they make software, etc. etc. etc.

PalmSource actually had a beta of the software running on about 6 devices they had up for display last night. All six of them were working smoothly. I was told, the software will be released the second their licensing department gets finished with it, as all bugs have been worked out of the software already. Its a matter of time.

The reason Sprint sais coming soon, is because in July, they will be merging with Nextel, and the 7520 will be readily available from Sprint, as well as the 7250. They are waiting however, until the merger happens.

Its a miracle what you can get out of these people, if you leave a good impression with them.

NJBlackBerry, Did you receive your invitation to the Nextel Party tonight?

tankee531 04-20-2005 10:30 AM

what's Nokia doing there if they got nothing to show?

does the PalmSource software offer the full BB features, including push-calendar, BB browser, etc?

Nope, just BlackBerry email, and they say that the internet settings on the palm have been converted to run of MDS.

May do the T-Mobile party tonight. Then again, may not :)
Good keynote speaker today.
Just left the 4.0 upgrade session when someone in the audience asked if all you handhelds had to be on 4.0 before you could use the 4.0 handheld upgrade tool.

Where is the Tmobile Party at? and when?

The word Tool best describes the person who asked that.

thanks for the reply.

That mean palmSource is only targeting general consumer and not corporate users. looks like I can strike out Treo from my list.

I just hope no one posts photo evidence of the House of Blues...

Today IS The last day. Nothing interesting really happened today, or is happening. Just some more seminars, and some more solution showcasing. Nothing special.

Last night was the T-Mobile Party, The Nextel Dinner Party and the Verizon Party.

I attended the Nextel Dinner party, met some great people. Definately Good Times (y)

Been there and back.

I got there on Sunday about 9AM. Yea, I booked some extra time for myself.

I am new to the blackberry world, we have around 100 devices rolled out. 7280's, 7290's and we are getting ready to deploy the 7100g's. Currently we are using the classic method of installing the BDM at the users workstation. Obviously we need to make some changes. It seemed that our installation methods were being touted as the way NOT to do things. They are right!

Anyway now it's back to the grind and time to talk to management about some changes that need to be made.

I have to say that there was a lot of really good information here.

As far as the hotel... it was ok. I don't think this is where you want to take your family on vacation. It just seemed that all of the prices were inflated because the hotel is a conference center. I guess that makes sense, but damn $5.50 for a Budweiser!! Good thing this trip was on the company card. I guess thats the point.

I have to say that for 200.00 a night I had a absolutely georgus splendid view..................... of a gravel roof!

HA oh well. I did enjoy talking with everyone. i wish I could have made some contacts here before the trip. Next time. :bb:

NJBlackBerry 04-21-2005 01:50 PM

Guess - you forgot the Cingular party at La Nouba, where they gave away 7100gs to all of their invited guests (of which I was not one).

Shout outs to Guess, TGL517, VincentVega and the gang from Idokorro and Magmic. Sorry if I missed anyone. Great seeing every one.

At the airport. Quite ready to go home :)

authentication_key 04-21-2005 02:16 PM

anything on MDS4.1?

rpfeffer 04-21-2005 03:28 PM

ahh man, I would love a 7100g!!! ;)

tankee531 04-21-2005 07:57 PM

3 of my users gave up on their new 7100g after 3 weeks of typos and replaced with 7290 instead.
