Explain BB email reconcile

Can someone point me to a link that explains this feature in detail?

I have been a BlackBerry user for a long time and still don't completely understand this feature.

For example, I use Tmobile and I think they use some sort of POP3 proxy which pulls mail, then my BB pulls mail from that proxy.

So, I tell my BB to delete mail on the server does it delete it from the Tmobile proxy or also on the mail server that it was on before the proxy pulled it?

This is just one thing I don't understand aobut the reconcile feature, I need a complete run down of how it works.

Any links available that explain this is detail?

Thanks!

The device never pulls for mail. BIS polls the pop3/imap server and pushes new mail out to your device. Your device never goes looking, it just gets sent the message.

Ditto Perfect Storm, that is why it is called "push" email". Some other PDAs and smartphones do pull, not RIM. I am mobile just now so I can't give you a good link to read, I can try tomorrow.

Yeah, I know it doesn't pull.. Just didn't write it correctly, my bad.

I am really interested in the reconcile stuff though, not push vs pull. Thanks for the correction anyhow though ;-)

Obviously the pop and imap protocols support deleting... How else do your messages disappear when you download them on your desktop? :) Without being a BIS administrator, I'm just guessing here, but I imagine the BIS keeps a linkage between a message Id on the mail server that hosts your mail, and the message it sends your BB. When you delete the message on your handheld and say delete from mailbox, the BIS server then sends a delete command to the mail server.

I'm pretty familiar with the mail protocols used on the internet and know this is easily done. Its all really much simpler than it looks. Hehe.
