I know it's a lot of folders, but once cached it's totally reasonable to think it would be faster. They aren't actively syncing. I can go into airplane mode and have same issue. We have him running...

filing to folders - search speed
Have a bit of unique setup - user with 4000+ outlook folders. Activesync to exchange server.
They don't need to be synced but does need to be able to file to them. On the 9900 it's fairly fast to...
