Since Verizon will unlock the Storm for you as long as you have been a customer in good standing for at least 60 days, I can't see why unlocking will void the warrantee

Every morning I put a very small amount of water one one fingertip. I rub it on the screen and then wipe off with a towel. Works perfectly.

Mine does the same thing but not all the time while in my pocket. I think it might get warm because it's harder to find a signal. You might also have something else running in the background.
