I have seen this with DOS prompts in 2000, XP when using robocopy.
It has to write the data to the screen which takes more time

You upgrade to Sp7 then run the database upgrade...

You upgrade to Sp7 then run the database upgrade (forget where) and then the install of BES 4.1 (it is an upgrader to enterprise) can continue.

It might need to download a codec or you have a corrupt codec on the BES.

I saw the same thing with Exchange. There was a post on SNMP service and to turn it off. I'm not sure if it helps others with the same issue on domino.

I am glad they might have the PDF issue...

SBE and BES are very similar cept SBE is limited...

SBE and BES are very similar cept SBE is limited to 15 users and SP 6 with MR5 is avail for both

BPS is a bit different and only 4.1.4b is available.
